Central Bank Independence and Stable Prices

If what we concern ourselves with is inflation and price stability and if we agree that a politicized central bank is inherently inflationary due to a willingness to monetise deficits, then why would a completely independent central bank with a single mandate - stable prices - not achieve this goal?

Any help appreciated guys!
