I have a Libertarian friend who is looking for more resources on climate change for a paper, and his professor apparently wants more modern research (i.e., 2008+). Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't know of any specific "free market environmentalist", but here's some scientists who go against the Al Gore paradigm.  You can certainly search for their writings for hard data as well (listed: Richard Lindzen, John Christy, Paul Reiter):
