Do high gas prices take the blame away from inflation?

So, when prices shoot up, can people successfully blame it on high gas prices instead?  And get everyone focused on why gas prices are shooting up instead of federal reserve/federal government caused inflation?

Gas prices go up because of inflation, as Representative Paul commented in one debate, if you buy gas with pre-1965 United States dimes and quarters, which are 90% silver, you pay like ten or fifteen "cents" per gallon.

does it cost you less than $100 to fill up your tank? You could fill it with four peace dollars.

my goodness....I never thought about it like that.  That is pretty ridiculous.  He should be saying that in every debate.  All the time.  Regardless of the question...just throw out an "and by the way...".
