What are the books / sources / things you have read that have helped make the comic books?

I have a few ideas. Smile

Just going to add some more praise

Issue no. 5 was as good as the rest. I want more though!

Not sure who I know that would be interested in it though. All the people I want to convince of AE are here at university and would probably see it as beneath them.

The difference between libertarianism and socialism is that libertarians will tolerate the existence of a socialist community, but socialists can't tolerate a libertarian community.

Then it should be extremely easy to refute. And they should give it a shot. Wink

It's mostly based on Man, Economy, State, and secondarily on Human Action.

Issue #3 largely drew on Menger's Principles.

And of course I draw from whatever sources I quote.

Thanks!  I'll probably be working on adding more slides to the first 5 issues before I make #6.  I want them to be thorough, and right now I haven't even mentioned such important concepts as Scarcity, Opportunity Cost, Economizing, Complimentary Goods, or the Law of Returns.

Ha, thanks - I guess I wasn't clear enough. I meant about the design, method of creating a comic book. You mentioned one earlier I believe.

That has been helpful, i.e suggesting the size of characters, and other techniques to get the message across.

Lilburne:
Pray tell!

Hehe, well I have 2 other projects I'm working on. But in terms of comics, and anyone / by ALL means go ahead and do it because it will be awehile before I get to it. But I was thinking something should be done about Praxeology. Difference between natural sciences and social sciences. Methodology etc.
Just an idea atm. Smile

Ah, yes, a future Human Action Comics issue will definitely cover methodology.  Of course it'd be GREAT to see a Conza iteration, too. Big Smile

Oh, and I meant to say "Understanding Comics", McCloud's first one.  "Making..." is his most recent project, which I haven't read.

Let me know if you want me to edit together the video

Thank you, Daniel, for editing the Human Action Comics videos #1 and #2.

For issue #3, I've updated the slides and narrated the head-to-head match between Smith and Menger and uploaded it to YouTube.  If you could work your resolution-improving magic on that one too, that would be awesome.  Thanks SO much.

Thanks Daniel for editing my narrated version of Issue #3 and making it legible!

In my own hamhanded way, I am trying to construct flash animations of Economics In one Lesson, using a cartoon 'powerpuffgirls' like style. I'm currently storyboarding Episode One, the Broken Window... the Ameoba Boys chuck a brick through a persons window, a crowd gather and start talking nonsense. the mayor calls for The Bastiat Girls, who use their X-vision to 'see the unseen' and talk sense to the citizens of townsville. and again the day is saved

I thought about doing something like that too. But with The Simpsons, or Family Guy, or Batman, or something... Pokemon? I don't know what cartoon is popular nowadays. Are you going to have audio like Lilburne?

What does everyone think?  Should I continue hosting them on Picassa or Facebook?  Is the interface or resolution better on one or the other?  Will one draw a bigger audience?  (I guess, with the latter question, Facebook is the obvious answer.)

However, I already can't stand the Facebook ads.  Picassa being ad-free is a major plus...

Aiight.  You can block ads in facebook with firefox addon=adblock plus.  Or you can download stylish on the firefox addon site, and then look for the sponser block style.. or whatever it is.   I do that.. but then, I am a facebook addict... :/

You observe, but you do not see.

In the Human Action Comics main/introductory page, I just added a table organizing the links to all of the issues in all of their formats.

So how many issues do you think you will have / do? One for each chapter of MES? lol

Well, in addition to what I've already done, I at least have to do one on each of the following topics:

  • Division of Labor and the Law of Association
  • Methodology
  • Price Theory
  • Monetary Theory
  • Economic Calculation
  • Credit Theory
  • Banking
  • Monopoly and Competition
  • Government Intervention
  • The Business Cycle

That would make the series 16 issues long.  But this is just off the top of my head, so I'm sure I'm leaving some out.

If anyone can think of any other essential topics that deserve their own issues, that'd be helpful.

I have been studying Austrian economics on Mises since early 2008, so I still consider myself a "newbie". "Human Action Comics" is FANTASTIC. When your project is complete, it should be placed in a prominent location on this website so "students" can get a head-start. The nature of Austrian economics lends itself to visual presentation (i.e., mathematical formulas need not apply).

I'd like one on the Fed, not the history, but the technical meat and potaoes.

My q's in particular:

1. How exactly does the Fed increase the money supply? I've read by buying back bonds from banks, but doesnt that mean the banks already gave them money to pay for the bonds, so the Fed is just releasing money that was once out there?

2. How exactly is lowering interest rates related to increasing the money supply?

3. How exactly do they decrease the money supply?

@ Chloe: Thank you for your kind words. :)

@ E.R.: Glad you enjoyed issue #3. :)

@ Conza: What's with the rage face? :)

@ Smiling Dave: filc is correct that such an issue wouldn't really be apropos to this series, which is really about theory, not history.  However, I'm sure I will touch briefly upon the Fed in a business cycle issue that involves money rather than coconuts.

Here's a new issue.  Sorry for the long delay.  This one cover the law of marginal utility, and is a follow up to the issue introducing marginal utility.  I had to race through making this one tonight due to time constraints, so there may be mistakes I'll need to correct later.

Hello there,

This is my first post on these forums but I've been lurking for the past few months. I've been gradually immersing myself into Austrian Economics over the past half-year or so, and I find your comics very useful for coming to terms with the basics. It's important to have something like this because it lures in people who may be put off by the more academic introductions to Austrian Economics. If I may make one suggestion, I'd say that you should try to keep up-to-date with the YouTube version of the comic, as it is more newbie-friendly than the normal version. Personally, I'm interested enough to read the normal comics, but the average passer-by would be more inclined to watch a video on YouTube than read for himself, as there is less effort involved, I think.

Keep up the good work.

Regards
