just when I thought that the Austrian School of Economics could not enrich my life further, the message of Mises managed to get me the bitches.

I was sitting in my local coffee shop, reading Methods of Logic, scribbling some notes, and generally being an A.G. (Austrian Gansta) when I noticed three attractive young ladies enter and order. I briefly look up to admire them as I would art in a museum and then continue with my studies. two of the girls get their orders and leave. as the straggler was passing by she noticed my liberty bracelet and asked what it ("Tu ne cede malis") meant. I looked up and said "Don't give in to evil." she smiles and asks "what, in your opinion, is evil."

now my knee-jerk reaction to that question is shouting "COLLECTIVISM!", but I restrained myself. I said that I thought evil was forcing a man to be less than he is. she asked how could one force a man to be less than he is. I gave her a very brief summary of the non-aggression axiom and that evil acts are evil acts despite their intentions. as she was commenting about my remarks on evil (she was in agreement, which is a good sign of her quality) her two friends came in to wrangle her back to their car so they could leave. the straggler introduced herself and her friends to me and I introduced myself and one of her friends asked what we were chatting about. I stuck out my arm and replied, "my jewelry". her friend bent over and asked "what's mises.org?" I informed her that mises was a name of an economist and told her a little about the Austrian School and the free market. I then began to unbutton my shirt to reveal the beaming face of Mises upon my chest. the first girl laughed and accused me of having a crush on Mises. I told her she didn't know the half of it and reached into my pocket and pulled out my LvMI money clip. it was fortunately packed with useless paper as I just went to a bank to get some cash to last me for a while. the ladies' eyes sparkled. I then told them it was merchandise put out by the Ludwig von Mises Institute and since I'm a fan of their philosophy, I find this to be a good way to support them. needless to say, bitches dig Mises and the Free Market and they invited me to go bar hopping with them this weekend.

ergo, support the Austrian School and you'll get bitches.

I do wonder if there might be a less offensive way of making the same point.

At the least, we can point to this post the next time someone accuses Mises.org of only being home for the socially conservative libertarians Tongue Tied

Really though, treating women as things to "get" and calling them "bitches" is not really the disposition you should have.

I ain't arguing the validity of bitches as the prefered nomenclature of bitches, I'm just saying that whatever you call them, Mises will get them for you.

and as far as the A.G. lifestyle goes, allow me to quote you some Kalibah (A Fellow of the Austrian School of Gangsters):

"think its time I made a song for economists who dont know me
I graduated from Austria , Ima real O.G.
I been finding pareto-optimiality since I stood 4 feet
So all you keynesians actin bad you gone have to show me
You gone make me bring the market to a real slow creep
My economists hangin out the window mouth full of gold teeth
When the guns start poppin wonder when its gone cease
Rothbard hit you in the side an create a slow leak
we can end the market speculation cause today we gone see
Whats the future of a *** neo-classical economist hatin on me
I don't give a *** about the fed's investigation on me
I don't care that they at my seminars and they waitin on me
Ima keep on cost-calculating long as Mises is on the beat
Tell socialists i aint stoppin Ima keep it in the streets
Contrary to your beliefs I'm as real as you can be
*** ya thoughts and ya feelings Keynesians you dont know me"

Dude, do lighten up. Political correctness is really tyranny of speech. He's just being funny.

Bwahaha.

 That's hilarious.

He did tell them the website. I can only hope they decide to check it out for themselves...it could be very funny.

Isn't that the perfect example of how a free society makes people respect each other? We don't need to make rules about no-no words, since they tend to boomerang back. Hence, referring to 'bitches' might well make said 'bitches' uncooperative.

Free interaction between consenting individuals FTW!

Drag not your strength from government, but from the voices they abuse.

Liberty is Truth,

You are correct in that free speech is checked in a free market by the reaction to that speech.  But a very important point, in my opinion, is the aplication of private property rights in regard to speech, and in a completely free society there would be no "public property".  Therefore whomever owns the venue has the right to determine what can or cannot be said there.  For example, if you come to my house, and I am offended by the things you are saying then I will ask you to leave, if you don't leave I have the right to make you leave.  So I always cringe at people who try to claim that their "free speech" is being abridged by a private person.  The constitution (rightly) attempts to protect the speech of its citizens from coersion by government to silence.  But a paper that doesn't want to print your letter, or a tv station who won't allow you to speak on one of their shows isn't interfering with your rights to speech, they are asserting their rights to private property.  So if you don't own this website you don't get to make decisions about the content.  More important is the fact that this forum is here so that people can discuss fine points in Austrian theory, if the dialogue devolves to the point that people who come to the forum think it's a joke, or worse are offended by content that has really no point other than an attempt at humor it reflects poorly on the Institute and those who post here.  I think there is much to be said for J.T.'s open-mindedness  to ask that the poster not be offensive, and not just delete the post outright.

I'm not going to lock this thread given that it is light-hearted fun (unless it degenerates into something worse), but please consider whether you want this to be a lowbrow forum or a highbrow one such as the Austrian forum was earlier on.

I agree with Tucker, even though it is a funny anecdote. On the contrary: being an Austrian is costing me a girlfriend...

Did you call them 'bitches' there?  I do hope they check the website and find this, assuming this story is true.  Only men are supposed to be interested in Austrian economics, right?  Wink
