Learn how to quote.
Bump.
I'm answering, not because of the bump, but because you've helped me out with other threads recently.
One way is to put the word qoute in square barckets before the words quoted, and then /quote in barckets after the phrase. I am verbose in describing, because actually typing the symbols will make them disappear and put what I'm writing in a quote box.
The other is to look around for a long thread on this very topic, where at the end of the thread a link or something to a workaround was posted.

Ah, found it. This.
LEARN TO QUOTE.
bump.
Thanks liberty student and nirgraham,
I also discovered that this works:
You should then see all the appropriate text and block-quote tags in your text field.
This has worked for me in Chrome and Safari, but not Firefox.

wow the back and forward thing works!
liberty student: I have made a post here explaining how to get some of this functionality back. http://notreason.com/mises-community-quote-workaround/ Let me know if pictures would be helpful. If you have any questions, ask here. Big thanks to Nir for helping make this happen. E. R. Olovetto has also come up with a solution that allows you to be selective with what you quote. That can be found here. PS, I would appreciate if people would bump this when they read it, so we can make sure lots of people see it over the next week or so. Thanks.

okay.
ERO:you can also quote multiple users with this format.
Thanks for the tip.
I'd also like to point out that when you go to reply to a post, the URL looks like this:
http://mises.org/Community/forums/AddPost.aspx?ReplyToPostID=385142&Quote=False
All you do is delete the "False" at the end, and replace it with "True," hit return/enter so the page reloads with the new address, and BOOM! The quote appears like magic.
No fancy coding, bookmarklets, etc.

yeah, that's precisely how the bookmarklet works ;-)

Seconding Cool User Name's Question:
Why don't they just make the "quote" button at the reply screen work? Or do you know a way to use it? Any time I've clicked it nothing happens.
Come on, people. Forum programming is not magic.

There's an error on the reply page, trying to assign a new object to.. nothing (see below) For this forum's devs probably a good place to start.
@freeradicals
I do not think that the devs are going to fix this forum because they are already working on redesigning the whole community page...

I was wondering why on earth the quote button never seemed to do anything - thought it might be my browser's fault. Think Blue: Learn how to quote.
TEST.
Anything that needs a work-around isn't worth bothering with in my opinion. I think I'll stick to the old trick of using italics and quotation marks.
