Counterintuitive news of the day: The California Cannabis Association is opposing the Proposition 19 pot legalization initiative on the November ballot.

http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2010/09/pot_group_is_against_propositi.php

Humbolt Country as a whole didn't want weed legalised throughout the state, because pot laws are hard to enforce in the woods, but the established players would be destroyed if it could be grown everywhere and players on a free market could undercut them.

This doesn't need it's own thread, so here's some economically illiterate hipsters at W&M protesting for a living wage.

"I support living wages for all William & Mary workers and commit to finding the necessary solutions so that all campus workers can meet their basic needs"

Let's guess what their idea of a solution is...

I had always been impressed by the fact that there are a surprising number of individuals who never use their minds if they can avoid it, and an equal number who do use their minds, but in an amazingly stupid way. - Carl Jung, Man and His Symbols

The AZ Secretary of State came to our school to give a presentation on the budget last week. This isn't from last week but it's the same presentation. Pretty interesting, actually.

Awww, how cute? Did he tape the descriptions on the kleenex boxes all by himself? So adorable. A power point would have sufficed.

What is more dangerous? Terrorism, smoking or poverty?

That's a great video, Nielso, and unfortunately it reminds me that people seem most frightened of freedom itself.

Ron Paul in good form:

"If we wish to preserve a free society, it is essential that we recognize that the desirability of a particular object is not sufficient justification for the use of coercion."
