Hello, all
I posted a few weeks ago in regards to a topic for a history project I'm doing. I came up with my topic--the Espionage Act of 1917.
Has anyone here read any interesting books, seen any interesting videos, or known of any other good resources about this?
I've listened to some podcasts from Lew Rockwell and watched Naomi Wolf's "The End of America". What I need now is a really fascinating book to get me writing...
Thanks!
I don't know of any good primary resources for your topic but James Weinstein very briefly touches on it in both "The decline of socialism in America, 1912-1925" and "The corporate ideal in the liberal state, 1900-1918".
While he writes from a Socialist perspective, his works (as well as fellow socialist Gabriel Kolko [Railroads, Triumph]) have a reputation in free-market circles as invaluable references detailing the rise of the Corporate State.
Rothbard's 1986 class lectures draw heavily from the two Kolko books and Weinstein's 'corporate ideal'. If I recall correctly, their works are heavily footnoted, so they could also serve as good tools for finding more primary resources.
Although I haven't read it myself, Robert Higgs "Crisis and Leviathan" might have some relevant information for your topic.
If you want to parallel it with current events, you can always talk about Julian Assange and what would happen if he were a citizen of the United States. If you just click this, you'll find at least a few good sources from the Mises Institute.
