In the words of HL Mencken,

Human life is basically a comedy. Even its tragedies often seem comic to the spectator, and not infrequently they actually have comic touches to the victim. Happiness probably consists largely in the capacity to detect and relish them. A man who can laugh, if only at himself, is never really miserable

"Lighten Up" sounds like something Arnold Schwarzenegger would say before he fried his enemy with a flame thrower.

Now watch him impale Freddie Mercury:

That made ma laugh. I'm still pissed though that I can't live to be 400 because statism is blocking medical progress.

Yeah, I've definitely come to laugh off stuff that is just accident, happenstance, or bad luck.  But the things that have increasingly ticked me off are the result of concious aggressive action by other people.

That's really the most annoying thing about all this, isn't it.

EconomistInTraining, how about you try to make me "lighten up".

He did, by providing a Mencken quote, unless you mean something else by that comment?

Obviously I didn't "lighten up" as a result of that quote. So yes, I meant something else.

Excellent! That wasn't even the video I intended to link you. But as long as I got you to laugh that's good, I'll leave the lightening up part to the OP

My point was that EconomistInTraining, of all people, certainly won't make me "lighten up". And who is he to demand that I do his bidding?

Yeah, who does he think he is? Tyrannical monster! OI OI OI.

Because you sound so serious in response to a request to lighten up. So it made me laugh and forget the silly stresses of the day.

Why don't YOU heavy down!

wait... what?

In States a fresh law is looked upon as a remedy for evil. Instead of themselves altering what is bad, people begin by demanding a law to alter it. ... In short, a law everywhere and for everything!

Why wouldn't it? A request to lighten up is followed by a challenge to "make me lighten up"- haha that's funny as hell. I didn't expect it.

So it's funny just because you didn't expect it? Or what?

Why should I automatically listen to someone when he tells me to "lighten up"?

Yeah its funny because I didn't expect it, isn't that what I said? To see the complete opposite of "lightening up"

You don't have to do anything you don't want to do, Mr., no one is putting a gun to your head.
