No. There was a guy last year who wondered the same but no one could help him.

I just took these shots while touring Lviv. While I had known Von Mises was born in Lviv, I didn't even think about him until I all of a sudden, out of surprise, I came across his plaque. The address is 13 Akademika Hnatyuka Str. His birthplace was just a couple blocks from where I was staying.

Definitely belongs in the "best bumps" hall of fame.

Yes, the people who were behind the initative to put up the plaque ultimately found the location. They got acess to some archive where buildings the von Mises family owned were listed. I read about all this relatively recently, but aren't 100% sure where.

Interesting. Yes, from the looks of it, the plaque is fairly recent. Ukraine could certainly learn a thing or two from Von Mises. A good bit of the country still haven't recovered from Soviet era socialism.

BTW, observe that the first and the second 's' of 'Mises' are writen differently. Since Ukrainian alphabet is phonetic I finally know for sure how Mises is pronounced. ('з' is latin 'z'.)

Also, the Cyrillic version of "von" is actually pronounced "fon".

I can imagine this helps you, but knowing it is pronounced "MEE-zus" isn't any help to me.

Rhymes with "Jesus."

Given the explanation on the website, yes. But if you actually read it correctly, it should rhyme with "cheeses", with the "ee" actually being short, not long, and the last "s" actually reading as "s", not "z".

Alright, I'll actually pronounce it for you:

For some reason the "s" trails off and sounds like a snake, so ignore that snake sound.
