I think I just threw up in my hands. We've a new holiday. 1 May from now on is "Loyalty Day." NB: "common good" is listed before "liberty." I think this is the part where we get brainwashed. Here's Obama's proclamation:
The White House Office of the Press Secretary For Immediate Release May 01, 2012 Presidential Proclamation -- Loyalty Day, 2012 LOYALTY DAY, 2012 BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA A PROCLAMATION More than two centuries ago, our Founders laid out a charter that assured the rule of law and the rights of man. Through times of tranquility and the throes of change, the Constitution has always guided our course toward fulfilling that most noble promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve the chance to pursue their full measure of happiness. America has carried on not only for the skill or vision of history's celebrated figures, but also for the generations who have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears and true to our founding documents. On Loyalty Day, we reflect on that proud heritage and press on in the long journey toward prosperity for all. In the years since our Constitution was penned and ratified, Americans have moved our Nation forward by embracing a commitment to each other, to the fundamental principles that unite us, and to the future we share. We weathered the storms of civil war and segregation, of conflicts that spanned continents. We overcame threats from within and without -- from the specter of fascism abroad to the bitter injustice of disenfranchisement at home. We upheld the spirit of service at the core of our democracy, and we widened the circle of opportunity not just for a privileged few, but for the ambitious many. Time and again, men and women achieved what seemed impossible by joining imagination to common purpose and necessity to courage. That legacy still burns brightly, and the ideals it embodies remain a light to all the world. Countless Americans demonstrate that same dedication to country today. It endures in the hearts of all who put their lives on the line to defend the land they love, just as it moves millions to improve their communities through volunteerism and civic participation. Their actions help ensure prosperity for this generation and those yet to come, and they honor the immutable truths enshrined in our Nation's founding texts. On Loyalty Day, we rededicate ourselves to the common good, to the cornerstones of liberty, equality, and justice, and to the unending pursuit of a more perfect Union. In order to recognize the American spirit of loyalty and the sacrifices that so many have made for our Nation, the Congress, by Public Law 85-529 as amended, has designated May 1 of each year as "Loyalty Day." On this day, let us reaffirm our allegiance to the United States of America, our Constitution, and our founding values. NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2012, as Loyalty Day. This Loyalty Day, I call upon all the people of the United States to join in support of this national observance, whether by displaying the flag of the United States or pledging allegiance to the Republic for which it stands. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-sixth. On the bright side, at least the music was beautiful.

I feel Comrade gotlucky speaks for all of us ...
I literally heard nothing about this at all until five minutes ago
Maybe it pays to watch CNN sometimes?
Or did they even report on this?
I saw it on facebook. I bet Ludwig von Mises can get more fans than John Maynard Keynes posted that proclamation because so many fans thought that it was a joke. This was the first I've heard of it.

Gero had that one a while ago. But that film definitely needs to be publicized.
Though it's gotten better since then, living under Burma's (Myanmar) military junta is a nightmare and this documentary by an undercover journalist group shows just how much oppression the people have to go through
@JJ
Ah, my bad. I forgot he already linked to it. Sorry bout that Gero bro'!
But yeah, I think awareness about our school sytem is the most important issue in America today so , meh, at least hopefully at least one lurker sees the link, watches it, and helps him see the problem.
Sorry to sound ignorant (well I am ignorant) but how do you guys present your links with text like in the above posts?
Saw this the other day:

Argh, here's the link:
TheFinest:how do you guys present your links with text like in the above posts?
In that whole array of buttons above the textbox where you type...in the second row, the second group from the right, there is a button with a globe and a chainlink...that is the hyperlink button. Type what you want to show up in the box, then highlight the part you want to be linked, then click that button and paste the full URL you want the text to link to in there.

... Wow. Just... wow.
Obviously the intended effect behind this new holiday and the proclamation behind it is to foster the belief that questioning, let alone protesting, "the system" and the status quo is disloyal - in the sense of treasonous. So much for freedom of speech, eh?
The powers that be are getting really desperate now.

So he's asking people to fly the flag or say the pledge on one day, big deal.
Come on, man. This is clearly another salvo in the government's war against ideological opposition.
The reality the media isn't telling you...
@bloomj31
It's easy to forget that there are people who can be manipulated by things like this (e.g. children). Most public schools require children to stand during the pledge of allegiance and usually make them recite it too. Loyalty day will have no effect most people who frequent this forum, but it might effect young children. The government is trying to get people like that to be loyal. They don't care to try to make us loyal; we're a lost cause to them. Children and other easily manipulated people aren't.

The amount of people actually expressing disappointment in Obama foreign policy and likening it to Bush foreign policy is kinda promising...

Assuming Away Reality
Why do you think I bumped this thread?
But since you mentioned it here, I figure I'll give this one a bump too...
I saw that before I posted. I asked myself ... Why? I'll, uh, form a theory and come back later. In the before-later time, here's another good article I read on Reddit- Skousen catches a lot of rookie mistakes passed around in the MSM as "economics." Good stuff.
Replace self-proclaimed "left-libertarian" Roderick Long with Lew Rockwell, and I'd probably use that poster.
I was just telling someone on FB that Roderick Long is the only one up there I have problem with being up there, but outside of the sphere of Austrians/an-caps everyone would have a problem with Hoppe and Rothbard (and Molyneux as well I suppose.) Overall I'm surprised they went "anarchist without adjectives" on this and put together varying schools of thought. I'd suggest having Mencken up there, and even that caricature of Stirner.
Doug Casey would be nice too.
