A nice flashback to 2009, and Peter Schiff explaining the world to a bunch of know-nothings who have constant slots on cable television.
A Critique of: 'If It wasn't for Ron Paul I wouldn't have been a libertarian'
I think both of those positions are quite narrow. While it's obviously not necessarily true that "If It wasn't for Ron Paul I wouldn't have been a libertarian", I don't quite see how it can be claimed that the reason it's not true is because "they were going to come across these ideas one way or another."
This to me screams syllogistic fallacy.
On another note, if this segment is any indication of what the whole conversation sounds like, it's probably better that I had put off listening to it. There's only so many times I can stand "mmhmm." "right'. "right." "mmhmm." "yeah" while one person just continues talking for minutes on end.
This kind of "agreeability" looks to be much more entertaining on The Apprentice.

My thoguhts, exactly. LHC is a multi-billion dollar boondoggle and it's not going to help us better understand the physical universe when there are already grave problems in our current picture of the Universe at scales much larger than those being investigated by LHC. A theory of physics in which we have 90+% of the Universe consisting of never-observed, ad hoc entities (dark matter/dark energy) is absurd on its face. And yet we're pouring untold billions of dollars into "probing the depths" and reinforcing the laughable claim that "we're near the mountaintop", i.e. almost have a Theory of Everything.
Clayton -
Gero posted this one too, but I found this worthy of quoting:
Here’s a quote from Sunstein’s paper:
[W]e suggest a distinctive tactic for breaking up the hard core of extremists who supply conspiracy theories: cognitive infiltration of extremist groups, whereby government agents or their allies (acting either virtually or in real space, and either openly or anonymously) will undermine the crippled epistemology of those who subscribe to such theories. They do so by planting doubts about the theories and stylized facts that circulate within such groups, thereby introducing beneficial cognitive diversity.
Sunstein is a sort of caricature of everything people don’t like and don’t trust about government. The fact that he’s in charge of “open government” speaks volumes.
Sounds about right.
Cavuto: Government Spends $102M to Find $20M in Fraud
@Sunstein issue: That's precisely why I keep an open eye out for disinfo agents on these boards (particularly when we start discussing revisionist history and conspiracy theories). The most common MO I seem to notice is flagrant caricature of some common conspiracy-theoretic ideas in combination with constant links and recommendations to lectures by more notable individuals who are likely also disinfo agents (Icke, Jones*, Tarpley, and pretty much any "ex" CIA agent you care to name).
Also, one quick footnote on psy-ops, generally. There is this impression nowadays that "psychological operations" are some kind of modern invention. They are not. Psychological operations are the essence of State propaganda through the ages. Some new techniques are invented over time but the primary body of techniques is ancient, well-used and constantly re-applied to the ends of the State.
*I wonder if Alex Jones and David Icke are truly misguided but well-intentioned individuals but, in any case, I suspect Establishment connections for a variety of reasons and I think they are peddling a particular kind of propaganda that I call intimidation propaganda. This is particularly pernicious propaganda because it is actually the truth regarding the intentions, plans and activities of the Establishment but with the twist that their capabilities are vastly exaggerated to cartoonish proportions. The net effect is to intimidate consumers of the propaganda - who will never be deterred from correctly attributing sinister motives to the government - which keeps them in the realm of resentment instead of actual resistance. "Let them hate us so long as they fear us."
Clayton:with constant links and recommendations to lectures by more notable individuals who are likely also disinfo agents (Icke, Jones*, Tarpley, and pretty much any "ex" CIA agent you care to name).
I don't see how Jones could be a disinfo agent. Just like when it was suggested Ron Paul was with the bad guys, I'd say he's been a pretty terrible ringer.
Although I do find it kind of funny tname you name Tarpley. when someone else here is pretty fanatical about him, teehee.

This guy's a Goldman Sachs stooge but still, he demonstrates a ridiculous example of central planning:
Regardless of whether it is an intended or an unintended consequence, the state control of internet technology slows capital growth in the sector and lessens the overall growth in the use of the internet, which in turn aids the established - and government controlled - sources of ideas. Combine this with the proposed internet filter and media inquiry (read: inquisition) and the state really has something going here.

@JJ: That TED piece was nice... reminded me a bit of this:
As a note, since people are celebrating a holiday today, tomorrow is aphelion, that point in the Earth's orbit at which the Earth is most distant from the Sun. Interestingly, we celebrate our New Year very close to perihelion (closest approach to the Sun) which occurs around Jan 4/5. It is well known that the winter religious festivals are connected to winter solistice (Dec. 21). Jewish New Year begins on the Spring equinox.

Clayton,
Every day I get a dozen emails from the forum software to approve posts. I've stopped doing it a while ago. This forum is not workable.
OK, I can repost it in parts, I think it choked on all the YT links. Let me know if you are going to approve it or if I should re-post piece-wise.
Re-post piece-wise plz.
