Copyrights

Does anyone have experience getting permission to do things from copyright holders?  What did you ask for and how did it work?

I often have to get permission for using copyrighted materials. Usually this is about content from web sites that needs to be added to another web site. I simply ask the person I think is the copyright holder and wait until they give permission. They generally do.
