Since it would have been his 100th birthday yesterday, here's Milton Friedman taking the argument of a protectionist and chopping it down with the edge of his hand... of argumentation:
If I had a cake and ate it, it can be concluded that I do not have it anymore. HHH

The reign of the terrible John James has ended!
Also, watch out for updates to my work in progress Liberty HQ, where I am for now aggregating libertarian articles on a variety of topics to make reference and reading easier:

One more from Friedman:
What?
DAMMIT! I made one! It just didn't go through moderation! NOOOOOooooo!
Well, at least it wasn't JJ.
It just didn't go through moderation! NOOOOOooooo!
Same thing happened here and if someone else made a thread and mine didn't pass, I'd probably react the same way start throwing things in my house.
Exactly! EMH confirmed! BOOM!
The numbers are still in his favor -.-
interesting I don't see anything in the mod forum.
Yours may have been lost in the void
This is cheating! The official time is PST; so, you're three hours ahead.
To paraphrase Marc Faber: We're all doomed, but that doesn't mean that we can't make money in the process. Rabbi Lapin: "Let's make bricks!" Stephan Kinsella: "Say you and I both want to make a German chocolate cake."
The official time is PST
I wasn't aware of that. Why?

Amtrak lost $800M on cheeseburgers and soda
Lol, that's how they boost GDP.
Here's a very cool article on the Chick-Fil-A story by a buddy's dean. This is in the New York Times:
As a gay man, I’m disheartened by statements like Mr. Cathy’s, with their limited conception of what it means to be a family. “Family” is a treasured — I’ll say it, sacred — word in the gay community. Through decades of modern-day oppression, gay men and lesbians have created families against all odds. Love, loyalty, commitment, mutual support: these things are family. They are scarce virtues that our society should do everything in its power to foster.
But that’s my opinion. And a society that truly believes in individual freedom will respect Mr. Cathy’s right to his views. Those who disagree with him are free to boycott Chick-fil-A in protest. But if our elected officials run Chick-fil-A out of town, they are effectively voting for all of us, regardless of our respective beliefs, and eliminating our individual freedoms.

What is a low content thread? Id say this is pretty filled.
what is the point?

@Daniel Muffinburg
My guess is that cost factors in what the food service workers get paid (wages + benefits). We all know government workers and contractors get paid very handsomely by the State.
The only one worth following is the one who leads... not the one who pulls; for it is not the direction that condemns the puller, it is the rope that he holds.
How the hell does it cost $3.40 for a soda? Even if they were buying 2-liters, it's only $1.19 at the grocery store, and the retail price, not the wholesale price.
They're professionals. At losing money.
It's for posting articles and other links which do not require in-depth discussion. That way we don't clutter the forum.
I shall watch this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMaoh53w9cw&feature=relmfu

Heh. Environmentalists critiquing new Keynesians (specifically, Karl Smith, who Murphy debated some time ago):
http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2011/12/02/380758/economist-karl-smith-suggests-solving-global-warming-by-having-everyone-move-to-siberia/
Of course, I do not want to imply that all new Keynesians are leftists, but I just thought this was funny.
We need to clean house on these out-of-control police departments. The problem is not rogue officers. The officers are pretty much just grunts... they'll do what they're told. The problem is the filthy, misanthropic mentality of the departments. One way we can push back is to start hitting the municipalities with stratospheric civil lawsuit damages. Would be nice if one of the supposedly pro-rights legal organizations - ACLU, Rutherford Institute, etc. - would pick this up. If Detroit were to be hit with, say, $20 billion in punitive damages for Aiyana's murder, that would at least send a chill down the spine of other municipalities who might start to think twice about their attack-dog tactics employed by their police departments.
I've been saying since at least 2007 that we are going to see ever more tragic, frequent and outrageous killings and abuses by the cops. It's the inevitable consequence of post-9/11 militarization. We need to see these inevitable tragedies as opportunities to take down the statists on all fronts - media, legal, political, financial, tactical, etc.

posting it here
I think you all are forgetting the most important and unsettling issue here...
John James hasn't posted on Mises.org in a week...
I noticed that, too. I have a theory - JJ and Wheylous are having a lover's quarrel. That's why Wheylous was gone for so long and then the minute he shows back up, JJ disappears. It's like when your parents weren't talking and would never both be in the same room at the same time...
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. This is disconcerting.
Thomas Sowell - Our Intellectual-In-Chief
I have a funny feeling that Sowell wouldn't appreciate being called an intellectual.

"Regulators are planning to look into why there was such a lag between the discovery of the problem and when Knight’s trading ceased, according to people with knowledge of the discussions."
I wonder, whose intererests are supposedly protected by "regulators" in this case. Stockholders? But why not going via courts?
