This is bullshit. Typical of Spielberg.

This is why I plan on making independent films rather than trying to get into Hollywood's liberal agenda.

I'll give it a chance, if only for Daniel Day-Lewis.

Hollywood is dominantly liberal, but not entirely. There are few mainstream films that have (what could be interpreted as) 'Libertarian' themes.

Yes, Daniel Day-Lewis is worthy of respect, however I certainly didn't like "There Will Be Blood" for it's message (it was based off a book by Upton Sinclair, so...).

I hate Shillberg.  No way will I ever see this movie.  As for There Will Be Blood, that was hugely overrated and average as a movie, regardless of any message.

It was indeed, I wasn't saying that it was that good of a film outside of the anti-capitalist message.

I'll share this when it comes out.  I love how Hollywood is going to be used to rewrite history...

Want to see how Hollywood loves re-writing history? Watch Pearl Harbor.

What 'message' is that? I'm quite certain that Paul Thomas Anderson (the writer/director of the film) only adapted the fitst bit of the novel, and he claims that there is no political agenda and/or message involved.

I thought the whole movie screamed out load "CAPITALISM RUNS ON GREED! THIS GUY IS A CAPITALIST AND HE HAS NO HUMAN FEELINGS AND HE BASHED A GUY'S HEAD IN WITH A BOWLING PIN...AND HE'S A CAPITALIST!"

Then why would the film mold the viewer to like his son? If you don't remember, at the end of the film his son gets into the same business as his father, and explicitly says they are now competitors.

The viewer is made to like the son, because he is nothing like his father (a greedy & self-righteous individual). The son is still a capitalist, and oilman, yet he walks away a better man.

PTA's new film "The Master" is actually completely anti-authority, and is used as an allegory to challenge all kinds of 'masters' in our society, particularly religious & political.

Hmm. Perhaps you're right, as the last time I watched the film was back in 2007 when I was nine years old...yeah.

By the way I do like Paul Thomas Anderson. I thought "Boogie Nights" was cool and I'd like to see "The Master." Looks interesting.

In my opinion, The Master was PT's worst so far. Not to say it was bad, just pointless. Even less of a coherent point than There Will Be Blood. Nice photography, though, as usual.

The acting for Lincoln looks dreadful.

There Will Be Blood had a pretty obvious 'point', how was it not coherent?

But really, acting is phased out when you  have a horrible script. I defend Hayden Christensen when people poke fun at him, because for the script for III, in the words of Mr. Plinkett, "Ever Sir Lawrence Oliver couldn't work with this shit."

Yeah, but Lucas was never a good actor's director. The acting in the original Star Wars was pretty bad as well (or at least over-the-top), but the characters were memorable, written relatively well, and you could relate to them.

Hey, I thought Alec Guiness was great. He always is. I just thought that with the prequels, George focused way too much on the FX to care about the acting or...well, I'll just let Mr. Plinkett do the talking.

I've seen Plinkett's reviews, lol. He's absolutely right about everything. I just think people tend to forget how cheesy the original films were. Funny thing about Alec Guiness, he absolutely hated Star Wars because he thought it was juvenile and silly, and he grew so frustrated that his role as Kenobi had become his most famous, that he would refuse to autograph Star Wars stuff, even for kids.

@ Kelvin Silva

What the fuck is a "cunt destroyer?" Sounds awful.

@ TronCat

Wow, I had no idea. And yes, the classics are indeed cheesy, at least for this day and age. But personally, I think they have a deep meaning to them. I can remember the first time I saw it as a little kid and it blew my mind.

Oh geez. I just looked up stuff that Alec Guiness did. Pretty harsh, I had no idea he hated the films so much.

Wow. I had heard of the rape of German women before, but I didn't know it was that massive. Terrible.

@ SM- That's not a very charitable interpretation of There Will Be Blood. I liked it a lot and thought there was much more depth to DDL's character than many people thought. Sure people will latch on and try to propagandize it, but it should be obvious even to them that they're no longer talking about the move. Even PTA said it wasn't a political film.

Yeah, PTA did an interview with Henry Rollins where Rollins just kept asking if it was about "Bush and oil" (I'm paraphrasing), and Paul seemed very uncomfortable. I did not see any anti-capitalist or even anti-religious message in the film at all. It was very clear that these characters were extreme personalities who did not "stand in for" whole swaths of society (like so many lazy critics would like to believe of every movie), but were meant to be just themselves, individuals. That is where the interest and the drama came in.

But then I really love PTA and his movies, so maybe I have rose colored glasses when it comes to his intentions.

Well keep in mind that I haven't seen the film since 2007, and my way of interperating a film was much, much, much different back then.

I would go see it for DDL and Spielberg.

Spielberg movies always have a high production but I have recently arrived at the conclusion that his movies are a bit showy or over the top, melodramatic. But I will definitely watch this movie as it looks like it has a high production level and a good casts.

Back to the Lincoln movie: I saw the trailer, and its objective seems to be to paint Lincoln as history's great warrior against slavery. The film will be a tragic exercise in mythological hero worship, methinks. Now it will be even more difficult for the average joe to understand actual history, thanks to the Hollywood genius himself. And btw, Spielberg, thanks for that last Indiana Jones film....

This would be a great movie for someone like Tom Woods to review and point out the "Hollywood vs. History" aspect of it!

I liked The Color Purple and Schindler's List too.

I wonder if John Williams will do the music?
(EDIT: I just checked imdb.com and yes, Williams is doing the music.)

Saying There WIll Be Blood is anti-capitalist or anti-religion is like saying Boogie Nights is anti-porn. THey're HUMAN STORIES, and have no political message at all.

As for the Lincoln film, I read somewhere that the man is not presented so perfectly as many have suggested it might. I have no doubt that the grand theme will be the protection of the "Union" and have Lincoln be a 'hero' by the end of it, but (from what I've read) he is depicted as being a complex individual that is a little over his head.
