@ Anemone
I actually think that is a good strategy. Politics is the art of executing a dialectic. See the problem? Here's the solution! Unfortunately, it's only a good strategy when the counterpunch is actually smart deregulation, de-licensing, lower taxes and a credit and money supply determined by the market.
This kind of reminds me of the popular notion of the good economy of the Clinton Era, despite the congress being republican majority for that period. It makes me wonder what the economy would be like without the republicans' largely illusory struggle to preserve the market.
The Anarch is to the Anarchist what the Monarch is to the Monarchist. -Ernst Jünger
The nurse that was fooled by a horrible impersonation of Her Majesty and gave up medical information about Kate was found dead.
Allegedly, it was suicide, but yeah... she was probably killed to send a message to nurses, doctor's, etc. to not reveal personal information about Her Majesty's family.
http://gma.yahoo.com/nurse-hoaxed-queens-call-found-dead-145123666--abc-news-topstories.html
To paraphrase Marc Faber: We're all doomed, but that doesn't mean that we can't make money in the process. Rabbi Lapin: "Let's make bricks!" Stephan Kinsella: "Say you and I both want to make a German chocolate cake."
Wheylous,
There are multiple things those words can mean when put together. Could you hint as to which one you meant?
Students For Liberty
@The Muffinburg: Wow, that is really... wow. I listened to the prank call and I'm withholding judgment on whether this was necessarily a murder. I imagine that the nurse received dire threats and intimidation from the hospital administration ("Your career is over, you'll never work again" kind of thing) and it is conceivable that Saldanha could have been driven to suicide by this. By the way, I'm curious about her immigration status. While the royals take their privacy deadly seriously, I imagine they receive the majority of their medical care by means of private doctors anyway. When I first heard of Kate's hospital visit, I immediately thought it was a publicity stunt, a convenient way to convey the impression that "royals use the NHS, too, just like everybody else".
But I can assure you those radio hosts' careers are over and I would be surprised if the royal family doesn't have this seen to - not so much because they breached royal privacy (which, in Kate's case, isn't really that big of a deal, apparently) - but because they wantonly mocked and ridiculed the Queen's and Crown Prince's persons. Moral of the story: Think twice before mocking a monarch, her successor and his successor in a country whose government belongs to that monarch.

It really impresses me how simple they make those concepts seem. I was struggling in my Macro class this week trying to figure out whether the economy is demand-driven or supply-driven and their video made it immediately clear to me.

This is pretty good, arguing torrenting versus the ethicality of libraries:
The Piratebay is the worlds most efficient public library
The way media piracy works is that one person or group purchases a work, and then shares it with millions of other people. This supposedly deprives the author or artist of those millions of people’s money. One group has acquired over 50 million media items, and makes each of them available to approximately 20 million people — which must be a tremendous hit to creative professionals’ wallets. This notorious institution is called the New York Public Library. It begs the question why every author, filmmaker, and musician isn’t up in arms about the New York Public Library’s rampant sharing, while there’s a ton of opposition to the sharing habits of BitTorrent peers who use The Pirate Bay. After all, The Pirate Bay’s community shares significantly less than the New York Public Library: just 1 million items in 2008 (and the collection certainly hasn’t grown 5000% since then). The reason that The Pirate Bay is offensive, and the New York Public Library is not, is because of its efficiency... If free and open access to all of human knowledge at the push of a button truly prevents our society’s beloved artists, authors, thinkers, and other creative people from putting food on their tables, then maybe it’s time to rethink how to put food on their tables.

Awesome
I never get how lowering taxes has somehow failed. Intelligent people usually don't balance their checkbooks by working harder...They just spend less.
On the other hand, clearly printing money has definitely failed (QE Infinity) but they continue to call for more of that. There is no hope with people who don't reason.
Arguably it prevented the situation from becoming worse.
Then again, I am not in the heads of the beneficent overlords that rule over us. They might have something in mind. I wonder why they're keeping so many excess reserves without letting the money out.
LMAO as soon as the pent up reserves in the banks really hit the loan market shits gonna go down.
Neodoxy, do you think they are that stupid? 'nanke's up to something.
Anyone here ever read "Brave New World?" Tell me how it was.
I enjoyed it. Definitely worth reading. One of the biggies along with 1984 and Fahrenheit 451.
Thanks. I honestly didn't care for Fahrenheit 451 though, as I found the writing style to be overly-flamboyant and unduly descriptive.

In terms of sheer writing style, 1984 takes the gold medal. Orwell could write.
Yes. Orwell the man wasn't exactly on our side of libertarianism. He was one of the traditional anarchists, and he claimed that he was, by writing the novel, attacking the "bourgeoisie," and not the governmental side of things.
All the Money in the World
1984 failed to meet my expectations. I felt the main character was too selfish in the beginning.
No joke. They didn't want a revolution - they just wanted to carve out a tiny place for themsleves and otherwise carry on with their lives (iirc).
Gotta love this. China's governemnt spends billions to build up industrial production, attracting business all over the world, but these industries turn out not to be self-sustaining.
It was good for the world, China basically subsidized our goods. Terrible return on investment for China. But governments never learn.
Six cities in Liaoning province, including Shenyang and Anshan, recently announced they are converting abandoned industrial sites to farmland. Dongguan, once a booming factory center, is on the verge of bankruptcy as companies close, leaving the local government severely cash-strapped.
