WASHINGTON—After nearly four months of frank, honest, and open dialogue about the failing economy, a weary U.S. populace announced this week that it is once again ready to be lied to about the current state of the financial system.

Tired of hearing the grim truth about their economic future, Americans demanded that the bald-faced lies resume immediately, particularly whenever politicians feel the need to divulge another terrifying problem with Wall Street, the housing market, or any one of a hundred other ticking time bombs everyone was better off not knowing about............."   More here

Tell people to come over to good old Europe. There isn't a day when some smiling politician or very competent economist tells us " The worst's over, 2010 will be a year of bonanza. Go out, get in debt, buy a house and a new car there's nothing to worry about", often in the same page telling us "Industrial production in March dropped 36% over last year, worst result since the '70s oil crisis. Experts warn it could get worse". It's like living in a tale by Franz Kafka where absurdity becomes the rule. What people believe? They are usually much more interested in the latest gossip or simply believe there's nothing they can do about it so it's better to stick the head in the sand.

Together we go unsung... together we go down with our people

So true, but on the bright side- great entertainment, with some really funny articles from "The Onion".

Numerous Monty Python sketches come to mind as well.

The never ending battle between the state and economic reality [when it reasserts itself every 20-30 years or so and recessions/deflations etc. occur] can be absurd, funny, tragic, liberating, depending on how one chooses to look at it.
