In a speech to evangelical churchgoers, Newt Gingrich said he fears the U.S. will become, “a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American.” Secular atheists and radical Islamists, fundamental ideological opposites, will somehow share power. This is nonsense, yet it does not cause his popularity to drop like a brick. That says something about the typical voter.
Aren't like more than two-thirds of Americans self-professed practicing Christians or something like that? Projected insecurity much...?
