For the past few weeks I have been working on a little project: the Austrian Economics Wiki at http://austrianeconomics.wikia.com/.

Now, there have been other attempts at making a wiki and I thought it is great... until my enthusiasm waned. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with collections of articles or opinion pieces. But an article does not a wiki make. With easy linking to detailed pages, with definitions of concepts and referenced materials from authorities on any given topic, a solid wiki will supply all the background for your arguments. There is a little 'demo' on the topic of fiat money, it hopefully demonstrates how a grown wiki could look like. A visitor to the page could click around and find his way through the whole universe of Austrian Economics.

In order to actually make the wiki, you need some sort of seed - something to link new concepts, articles and arguments to. That's what I've been trying to make. It is really just a seed. With your help, it can grow.

I am pretty sure I made many mistakes and fatal omissions - please help to fix them.

Yes, and I tried my hands on it. But a few unrelated articles do not a wiki make. I'd prefer to create a genuine tertiary resource. :)

Update: The counter has just reached 75 pages. There were many updates, and some new topics started like:

  • Money and Banking in Ancient Rome
  • Inflations in History
  • John Law and his inflation in France
  • ...and some non-historical topics, too.

Thanks to all for the words of support!

There is also Libertapedia. This encyclopedia was theoretically intended to accommodate all libertarians (anarchists, minarchists, etc.) but as a practical matter it has a pretty radical slant. http://libertapedia.org/

Quite an impressive page! They form their material differently and aim more for the political than economical, but yeah, they seem rather useful. Thanks!

Update: a major version of the Austrian Economics Wiki was reached by getting over 100 wiki pages. There shall be more, but I'm taking a break for now. However, I need assistance with the page on the current crisis, to make it more elegant and to get more facts from reliable sources. Any takers?

New topics include:

  • Adam Smith
  • Business Cycle
  • Cartel
  • Milton Friedman
  • Monopoly
  • Socialism
  • Unemployment

See also the list of all pages. Comments and contributors are welcome!

The wiki looks awesome.  Unfortuneately I don't think I've learned quite enough to start contributing in any significant way, yet.

Most of it was made for and as education anyway, so there are always options to expand it - you could for example make one paragraph. Small contributions are welcome, too!  ;)
