    Secession is the only real hope. Maintain the free trade and common labor market, but get rid of the Euro and leave the political sphere. Losing your sovereignty to a national government is bad, but getting it lost to a multi-national government is even worse.

    I think we have to be clear on what we mean by "authority." Authority means both power and respect. States have authority both because they have more guns than anyone else and because the public generally trusts them to maintain order. However states do not have an irrevocable claim or contract...
