I'm currently a graduate student in theoretical chemistry/chemical physics (Masters/PhD).
I was originally a Democrat. I chose this political ideology based on no logic or understanding. When election time came, many of my Republican friends would challenge my belief in the Democratic Party. I accepted the challenge, and it didn't take long before I chose an affiliation with the Republican Party. However, because of my scientific background I kept researching further. I then came across libertarian literature and read David Boaz's, "Libertarianism". Using simple logic and cause and effect, I came to embrace libertarian ideology as my own.
The picture I have in my avatar is Erwin Schrödinger, one of the great theoretical physicists of our time. He discovered the equation that bears his name. The Schrödinger equation, while an advanced obscure form of mathematics (complex partial differential equation) paints a fascinating picture of the dynamics of the universe. In general, theoretical physics is beautiful expression of logic and mathematics. Understanding a simple observation as heat always flowing from a hot to a cooler one gives way to physical constructions that are deeply profound based on simple laws of the universe.
