• Re: Did people borrow less from 1873 to 1896?

Price deflation (currency appreciation) does not deter people from lending out money. It's better to have $10,000 + interest than just $10,000. Price deflation does deter people from taking on loans, but that deterrence is effectively just depressed demand. Depressed demand for credit leads to lower prices (less interest) for the credit, making

  • Re: Bob Murphy on why trade deficits are no big deal

Do you agree that if nations are forced into doing something, they will do it?

I would agree that trade deficits aren't inherently bad. The US economy does not need to be very productive. The Chinese aren't making a claim on "future US goods" but future dollars... which the fed can print. We can't confuse dollars as being goods/gold. They're effectively infinitely reproducible. Just as the fed enriches

Dog. Carnivore. Look at stomach and intestines. Cow. Herbivore. Look at stomachs and intestines. (if you can point them out) Human. Omnivore. Look at stomach and intestines. Humans. Not quite cows, not quite dogs.

I can't add much to your post, Clayton. I agree that there are things which vary from person to person and I realize it's also a health thing. Getting away from processed food, intermittent fasting, and getting good sleep really cleared up my mind and let me focus on tasks for hours on end. As for exercise, I'd also suggest trying some of
It was especially confusing to people who spent a lot of time on Internet forums because it didn't follow the standard.
This is exactly it. The only things they got sort of right is that there's tabs at the top and you log in on the top-right of the page. (but not top enough, IMO) There's a very bad user experience. A user

  • Re: Primal diet/lifestyle thread

Clayton, I did some "paleo" diet about 2 years ago for almost 3 months. I ended losing 55 pounds. (240 to 185) I've been eating like crap since and I'm at about 200 pounds now and pretty steady. Prior to all this, my metabolism was screwed and I wasn't eating enough red meat. I followed the advice Kurt had put up at that point

  • Re: FRB in Stateless Capitalism

Question for thread: Should banks fully back their coupons/currency with 100% gold reserve? i.e. All coupons that people carry have a corresponding chunk of gold sitting in the bank. Also, how would a stateless society enforce this? Would banks have to disclose wether or not they are practicing 100% reserve, vioating their right to privacy of their
1) He is, as Schiff suggests, a good capitalist and is providing a product to a market
Hah! A good capitalist but a bad man. Producing "documentaries" for consumption. Comforting lies.
FRB is beneficial to private banks, allowing them to offer more and cheaper loans, and attracting more customers. The evidence is clear that even before the central bank, private banks practiced FRB, believing that tried and true (sic) line; "it won't happen to me."
Yes.
How would a stateless capitalism society stop
