  • Re: The Myth of Scandinavian Socialism

Haha, that is fantastic! Best laugh I had in a while.

  • Re: The Myth of Scandinavian Socialism

I agree completely. Looking at GDP per capita isn't telling at all in the real world. It's the stuff of text books and theory. That is why it drives me nuts when people site things like that trying to argue things like standards of living.

  • Re: Clayton - extent of space program faked?

It was actually my understanding that they had created the space program as a means of studying rocket design in the open. And then the Soviets did the exact same thing. And imagine that, they ended up the only two countries to develop ICBM's for a long time. Of course, the timeline runs concurrent to development, not prior to. But the research

  • Re: Computer games - Market failure

This is some kind of troll thread. Government can't write the driving manual well, let alone dictate what is and is not good for a game. Here is a good example of the market in action. Take the game, Call of Duty: Black Ops (codblops for short). It is the most successful videogame of all time, by a large margin. It has moved over 20 million units

  • Re: Why is Ron Paul against the Civil Rights Act of 1964?

@banned This is untrue of Ron Paul. He has publicly stated that he is pro-life, but also denies pro life legislation. He believes it to be a moral issue that is up to the individual, and not the state to decide on. He has stated that he is against legalization of it based on the same principle. And I have never seen him comment on deportation at all

  • Re: Why is Ron Paul against the Civil Rights Act of 1964?

One of the reasons Ron Paul is against this is because he doesn't believe governments should have any sway over such things. He believes (from my reading of his books) that the government should not force you to interact with people you do not wish to interact with. But he likewise recongnizes that the Civil Rights era was not to change society

  • Re: Specific thought about pedophilia

I had this same thought myself. I come to find out a friend of my mother's had sex with my brother when he was 14. My mother found out, and she was very upset. But, my brother was not violated, he was in fact very eager to have sex with her... as I was when I was 14 (but I was not so lucky). Also, if a 14 year old can commit a crime so heinous as

  • Re: Clayton - extent of space program faked?

Is there a reason to fake it at all when you can prove that that it's impossible due to prohibitive restrictions? No symbolic victory was necessary over the Soviets, in so far as the public is concerned. Only so far as the government was concerned. The US had technology that was further along in every way. It would have been much cheaper and easier

  • Re: Who here can refute Einstein on socialism?

It's very interesting, but it serves to prove what I always tell friends. If a person has Phd in physics, it does not mean they are qualified to discuss Botany based on that. I'm a biology nerd, and when I was growing up I heard, "Albert Einstein said that when all the bee's are gone, man only has 3 years left on the planet". To

  • Re: Regarding Troops Coming Home

As the gentleperson above me stated, they are paid by tax revenues. Tax revenues are taken from citizens, so it is money they do not have to spend. If you free that money for private cititzens to spend, then you have created wealth to pay them in a private capacity. I may be wrong, but it sounds like you are worried about the amount of available work
