  • Some questions about international trade and BOP...

Austrians do a great job of explaining economics but they don't use the same terminology as mainstream so I still get confused when reading the newspaper. "Setting a higher interest rate than other major central banks will tend to attract in funds via the nations capital account, and this will act to raise the value of its currency" -

  • Re: Necessary and Sufficient Causes of the Industrial Revolution -Hoppe

Hoppe has definitely said things that would make him lose credibility. I emailed him my questions about his "Economy, History, Society" lecture series and he responded that he had no time for such questions because he would not have time to do anything else if he responded to such inquiries. i guess we will just have to wait for the book.

  • Re: In Defense of The Penis

Libertarians are confused on 'coercive' acts not done by the state. Read Artistotle on political justice ( when in Rome, do what the Romans do), or better yet read the entire Nicomachean Ethics. In some communities, not having been circumcised right after birth is more 'coercive' because you eventually have to undergo the pain of circumcision

  • Re: Bono and Madonna: Mass Murderers?

So the money raised in a concert unfortunately went to a bunch of psychopaths/politicians? I don't see how Bono and Madonna are in ANY WAY responsible for any of those deaths. Are ignorant liberals morally liable for the poverty they cause by supporting the minimum wage and statist unions??? I think not. Same goes for Bono and Madonna. 100 000 deaths

  • Financial regulation as cause of the financial crisis - Argument from effect

I personally think that Austrians have been weak or not as assertive enough in counteracting the claim that deregulation caused the financial depression. We always point to the FED and its money printing as the fundamental cause of the business cycle, and while that is true, the fact is that we circumvent the issue of regulation, as marginal as it may

  • Re: James J. Martin on Evangelizing Liberty

Assuming the statement by Martin is true, the question now becomes how many people are biologically geared towards the libertarian ideology? There could be millions of socialists out there who could biologically predisposed to accept libertarianism. Since libertarianism is marginalized in the mainstream media, only a small percentage of people have

  • Can anybody help me understand this monetary jargon?

I've been subscribing to Austrian economics for some time now but I'm still confused about some economic commentary I see in the news. One reason for that is Austrian economics do not often use words such as Balance of Payments or foreign reserves in common academic parlance. How do central banks artificially overvalue their currency? How do

  • Re: How can anarcho-capitalism begin, and how can it protect itself against superior force?

Feudalism does not necessarily mean serfdom. You have to recognize the situation was very different 800 years ago. At a time where might often meant right it is beneficial to put in place a strong leader that can defend your property. Hierarchical social structures were advantageous back then because of primitive markets( primitive monetary systems

  • Where can I find a list of law cases that prove anti-trust is anti-competition?

I guess what I want is empirical evidence or the 'argument from effect'. I've read somewhere that most anti-trust suits are filed by fascist corporations/big business. It makes sense from the standpoint of 'regulatory capture'(This is Chicago, I don't know the Austrian argument though) theory but I don't have the evidence
