  • Re: Plato

I'm currently taking a philosophy class and my professor wants to portray Plato as a pragmatist like Aristotle rather than an idealist. The ideal polis in the Republic is an analogy of justice in the soul 'writ large'. The city also changes and eventually decays like everything else in space and time. A lot of the discussions are attempts

  • Argument with a eugenicist central planner

He cites Richard Lynn, Micheal Levin, J.P. Rushton and attacks illegal immigration as a big problem in the US. He told me that because lower IQ people reproduce more than higher IQ population groups then the global population is having a disgenic effect. I basically agreed with the essence of his assertions but told him he is ignorant in economics and

  • Pete Boetke, Steven Horwitz, Don Lavoie, David Prychitko, Hayek, Lachmann

Please explain to me the story of why the first four were shunned from the Mises Institute and called punks by Joe Salerno. Also explain what is wrong with the Hayekian brand of Austrian economics and why Austrians think 'Lachmannianism' is wrong. http://austrianeconomists.typepad.com/weblog/2009/08/setting-the-record-straight-on-austropunkism

  • Re: Tom Palmer's views on Hoppe and Rockwell

To Giant Joe: I agree about ignoring the critics for their ad hominem attacks but I still feel suspicious about this whole right-wing alliance. Since I've learned about the arguments in "Democracy: The God That Failed", I've become more open to 'market penetration' of libertarian ideas into the right-wing. Paleoconservatives
