    Okay. My last Final Exam is tomorrow. Then I am totally done with the semester and quite possible done with classes for the reast of my life. That's kind of a sad thought, since my final exam is on a topic I don't really care about. But whatever. Time to give it one last push. NO. SLEEP. TILL. FINALS!

    I watched a video (about an hour) where he kept referrring to ideas as "apps" and said that China was "downloading apps like liberal capitalism." Yah, the "killer apps" metaphor gets really old, really fast for anyone under the age of 40. But I can see why he did it that way. As I recall, the book "Civilization"

  • Historian Niall Ferguson

    Does anyone have any opinions about Niall Ferguson? I've always liked the guy. I find his popular writings very accessible and ussually informative. But I think his feelings on empire may not sit well with a libertarian crowd. What do you lot think?

    Neutral A neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. She doesn’t feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Most neutrality is a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character thinks of good as better than evil. After all, she would rather have good neighbors

    A reason why someone would have such a convex utility function with respect to a given gamble is that he's facing convex (non-diminishing) opportunities of investment for the returns he'll extract from that particular gamble. Things like owing mobsters money and or facing some unique investment opportunity that will shut down soon may "convexify"
