  • Re: Minimum Wage

Is this an idea for your own company or is this something you want to make other people's companies do?

  • Re: "Assassination of American citizen"

Forget principles for a moment... how dumb is it to commit an extralegal assassination of a civilian in pursuit of a "war on terror"? Aren't we supposedly trying to convince Islamic radicals that these kinds of attacks are WRONG? It seems like it's just a "cover your ass" move by the political leadership just so they wouldn't

  • Re: Drug Testing For Welfare Recipients?

And I forgot to mention another negative, that the tests themselves are paid for with tax money.

  • Drug Testing For Welfare Recipients?

I saw that Florida passed a law requiring this. How should libertarians feel about this issue? On one hand I can see how it's bad since it creates the impression that a drug-free person receiveing welfare is somehow more legitimate than a drug user when in reality the two are equally bad. It could seemingly also create a slippery slope where drug

  • Re: How "Bad" is Coal?

According to the EPA, the combustion of coal emits between 93 kg and 113 kg of CO2 per million btus (mmBtu) of energy, depending on the type of coal. For comparison, natural gas combustion emits about 54 kg CO2/mmBtu and diesel fuel combustion emits about 73.

  • Re: Economic Calculation Problem Debunked!??

So...question: Is this one of those things that will supposedly only work if it's implemented on a global scale? Is "socialism in one country" (or commune) a possibility or would any difficulties it encountered simply be blamed on economic sabotage by external capitalists?

  • Re: Glenn Beck's Fox show ending

While I agree with most of the anti-Beck sentiment here, I will say that I credit him in large part for curing me of my neoconism. There was a time when I listened to, and for the most part agreed with, Limbaugh, Levin, etc (but never Hannity, thank god)... but I turned them off when I realized that they couldn't for even 5 minutes interrupt their

  • Re: Debating Global Warming

Sorry for the old bump, but lately I've been working in the greenhouse gas regulatory compliance field and have been pondering private property-based solutions to the AGW "problem". Though I'm not particularly well-versed on the scientific nuances of the debate, I am nevertheless extremely skeptical of AGW paranoia and to me it seems

  • Re: Sales tax

There is a pretty significant movement for something called the "Fair Tax" which is supposed to replace all federal taxes with a national sales tax on retail purchases. But like all taxes, it's still theft, and it's still economically destructive. You say that "In each transaction between consenting parties, all parties profit"
