  • Re: Was Strauss right?

    >Look around at society and ask yourself if all it cares about is wealth, sex, and entertainment >>What should people be striving for? >Truth, whatever it is. Wealth enables things like the Large Hadron Collider, which is a tool to reveal truths. Sex enables production of more human beings, who can think about truths. Entertainment stimulates

  • Re: So are these forums closing down?

So would it be OK for me to post spam and impersonate people on LibertyHQ forums? Or is that too much liberty for one person?

Why not listen to Hoppe: https://mises.org/daily/5747/Why-Mises-and-not-Hayek You're better off reading von Mises.

  • Re: The Path From Being Austrian to Being Keynesian.

"On many of the economic topics they both wrote about Hayek was a lot more clear [than Mises], but this does not mean that Mises didn't understand these things, merely that Hayek academically elaborated upon them more clearly." Hayek makes no sense to me. For example, how do you deal with this contradiction? (1) "In Hayek's view

  • Re: What are the recent Private Product Remaining Figures?

This is the first time I've heard of PPR. I can't say I'm very impressed by this concept. Maybe the idea has died out due to being problematic? Here are the problems I see. First, if an economy produces a lot one year, but people consume even more, I would expect the economy would have shrunk. But PPR wouldn't show this, perhaps not

If anything, this thread makes me think of this: "Topic dilution is not only effective in forum sliding it is also very useful in keeping the forum readers on unrelated and non-productive issues. This is a critical and useful technique to cause a 'RESOURCE BURN.' By implementing continual and non-related postings that distract and disrupt

  • Re: Steubenville Case/Rape Culture

To me, the "sniffles" means a runny nose. It might be accompanied by a fever or virus. But a runny nose in itself will be a distraction that will impair cognitive functioning. Also, rape traditionally means an aggressor employing their genitals: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/rape?s=t " the unlawful compelling of a person through

  • Re: Steubenville Case/Rape Culture

The news report I saw on Steubenville confuses me for a number of reasons: 1. I don't think of it as "rape" unless the aggressor is employing their genitals. Who is pushing for more general definitions for this word? 2. Apparently the law says touching someone who is "impaired" is rape. What if they have 1 beer? Or what if they

  • Re: Why was Krugman's ATBC criticism supposedly so insightful?

"Here's the problem: As a matter of simple arithmetic, total spending in the economy is necessarily equal to total income (every sale is also a purchase, and vice versa)." False. Expansion of the monetary base and expansion of the money supply through fractional reserve lending are instances of income obtained without someone spending
