• Re: ABCT - Savings and investment

It's not that they don't have the money to byu the new products, it's that there's a misalignement with what's being produced, the resources available for longer term projects, and what people actually want .

  • Re: ABCT producer goods and stimulus
The answer I get is "how do you know? Won't more and better tools make for cheaper consumer goods in the future, (what ever goods these are doesn't seem to matte to them) in general, they add, won't the standard of living be better because certain things will now be more cheaply made for the future marketplace?"
• Re: An economic misconception that you marketeers often use...

" The top 1% actually pays 36% (Not 40%) HOWEVER what they 'extract' from the working class -cash they impose on the working class- is 300% higher than the same amount (through fees, rents, costs, charges, and general cost of living) than it was before Ronald Reagan took office. In other words, the 1% pay a fraction of the same cost compared

  • Re: Americans Work More hours Than Anyone Else in the World

There's a difference between being overworked and overworked relative to the standard of living you achieve for your labor. Individual workers are subject ot the same pressure as any entrepreneur; for example you don't have to be running a business to be essentially tricked into spending more than you really can afford. Workers, especially in
You might as well of said The MAN is forcing you to work harder.
Actually you may as well say The Man used the government to ass rape the economy, got his bail out, and expects his employees to work longers hours for lower wages to deal with the aftermath. No, The Man can't force you to do anything you don't want to do. But The

  • Re: Horray! $16 Trillion!

Nah, we out it to ourselves! Which I guess means I can go to the government and tell them I've decided to default on myself without penalty and absolve myself of any and all current and future debt obligations. Then I'm going to buy Montana and Florida.

  • Re: Once and for all: the waiting room question for soc. Health care

@Fool on the Hill Do you know of a convenient spot that offers Illich's books in eformat for free? I'm not sure of their copyright status and Amazon charges for them, but I've seen them charge for works not under copyright and I'm just making sure before I order. Obviously this one seems to be free at the site you linked to but it's

  • Re: Is banning certain groups from the military a good idea?

I don't see how it would make things worse or better. If the state needs troops and there aren't enough, they'll draft them and/or suspend the rules, or patch them like DADT. Until people question the wisdom of sending their kids off to murder and die en masse , the rules surrounding how it's done will be as likely to positvely or negatively
Finally, we actually get an answer. Am I right that you are basically saying that there is no clear or definitive evidence to turn to to say that lines and waiting times are much (if any) worst in universal countries than they are compared to the Current U.S. system.
No idea. Every 'free market' think tank who has looked at it

  • Re: legislated prohibition of alcohol and legislated prohibition of murder.
Then what good does it do to legislate against murder? Even if you think it does good, it's not ethical because those who refuse to pay taxes can get murdered if they resist arrest for failure to pay taxes.
It doesn't do any good. The law, private or government, just sets the bounds of accepted behavior and describes the punishments
