  • The Real Solution to Oil Spills?

It seems to me that while BP has been negligent, eventually we're going to have to choose between more risky drilling, and higher oil prices, as all the easy and safe wells get depleted. That is, unless other solutions are found that meet the transporation needs of the economy that don't use a lot of oil. 220 mph? sure beats the interstate:

  • Re: Best Books on United States History

My Advice? Read some of the primary material, not just the history books. Read what Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, Patrick Henry and company actually wrote if you want to get a handle on the Revolutionary Era for starters... a lot of it is really dramatic, really well writen, really compelling. Also a lot of it

  • Why is U.S. health care more expensive & worse than other countries?

At least, that's the common view, which a recent report confirms today: http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE65M0SU20100623 (Reuters) - Americans spend twice as much as residents of other developed countries on healthcare, but get lower quality, less efficiency and have the least equitable system, according to a report released on Wednesday. • Heroes?

Who do people consider to be real life manifestations or exemplars of Austrian or libertarian ideals? I don't mean theorists or thinkers, more doers. Also, what groups of people in history are closest to being societies which conform to libertarian or Austrian ideals?

  • Re: 4 - 5 U.S. Aircraft Carriers to the Persian Gulf?

Iran has very little influence over US oil supply. Except, in a war, if Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, that would stop all the oil exports of Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, U.A.E., and Bahrain; also, it would stop a good deal of Saudi crude. If they wanted to be nasty, they could easily blow up oil refineries, pipelines, facilities etc all over Saudi and Iraq

  • Re: John Locke

What do you want to talk about? I'm finding similar things with several authors... Edmund Burke, the supposed "father of conservatism" was apparently running around demanding people be put in jail for writing things against the King. And he thought the U.S. was rightfully a colony of Britain... and on and on... And these are the people

US air carriers are not obsolete first of all. You know the phrase "hit the broad side of a barn?" Well, carriers are several times the size of a barn, as targets go. They can't hardly move, and *even if* their close-in anti-missile systems work, they can't stop a dozen missiles incoming simultaneously. Iran makes its own anti-ship
