  • What's in it for the Fed?

    I have never totally understood exactly how the Fed benefits from its position as the central bank. My understanding is that basically the Fed creates and loans money to institutions, and ultimately the Fed gets the money paid back plus interest. Is that the basic motive for the Fed, i.e. the fact that they earn profits on loans? If that is the case

  • Is lowering interest rates inflation?

    I saw a newspaper headline this afternoon that said something to the effect of: Fed lowering interest rates to combat inflation. I didn't get a chance to read it but I was thinking about it and thought that it sounded funny. When the Fed lowers interest rates, isn't that inflation?   • Texas state government implements $5 tax on all patrons of Strip Clubs

The tax is, "...expected to raise about $40 million to be dispersed for sexual assault prevention programs and health care for the uninsured."
