  • Re: Economic critique of left-libertarianism?

@Jargon So in short (if I'm getting you right), in mutualism, property rights are defined by who uses a particular piece of land, which in your example would be the owner and his employees. A single man with no dependents would be king of his several properties (ski lodge, beach house) around the country so long as they remained unstaffed? Not trying

  • Re: Which forum member would you like to start a blog the most?

Clayton for sure. When Liberty Student and Sieben were around I'd have read their blogs too (if they had one)

  • Re: Economic critique of left-libertarianism?

@Jargon I've never understood these systems that argue against absentee ownership. How long does one have to be gone before squatters can move in and stake a legitimate claim to your property? How do they solve the issue? If i were a dentist in a mutualist society would I have to sleep out of my practice so nobody could move in at night while I

  • Re: Was Russia the first place to create Communism?

Really? Mexico? 1910-1930 was a period of political instability where no particular warlord could establish any national authority of consecuence. And there were bandits trying their damnedest to get the country to full-communalism (though they were not marxist ideologues), unfortunately these guys are still held up as heroes today by the intelligentsia

  • Culture Matters: revolution and liberty

I had a quick thought on revolution. I usually do tend to fantazise that a top down imposition of liberty would work wonders... but the truth is that culture matters the most, doesn't it? I mean, it wasn't the American Revolution that spawned a massive enterprise of freedom, it was centuries of neglect by the british towards the colonists. The

  • Re: Steve Jobs, Apple founder, dies

Is there any notion as to why he got cancer in the first place? Smoker? High stress? Sorry but I hadn't followed this story much.

  • Pedophilia and sexual slavery in Libertopia

I can't help but admit that I have yet to see a convincing argument as to how this issue would be handled in a free society. I mean, I sure as hell would bankrupt myself to protect my (hypothetical) kids from sexual deviants. But those poor orphaned boys and immigrant girls that are being used and abused in the shadier brothels of town? Regrettable

  • Is it possible to be truly consistent to libertarian principles without being a caveman?

After the pages long debate on the whole government scholarship issue I started pondering what aspects of my life I wouldn't want to change or were positive for me came from the state: A) Got a good internship at a microloan agency. Turns out they handn't turned a profit ever and were being bankrolled by the Interamerican Development bank and

  • Re: Age of Consent in Libertopia

@gotlucky: Forgot to frame it as a question, but if I had you, sir, would have won this thread. Thanks, that's the answer I was looking for.

  • Age of Consent in Libertopia

Would age of consent be primarily a function of a "My house, my rules" mentality? If a 16 year old girl took on a 40 year old lover while still living with her parents could her parents concievably sue aforementioned 40 year old man (assuming the relationship involved no coercion). Given that there is no compulsory education system in libertopia
