  • Re: Can a video game "damage" the U.S. economy? (or let's play a game)

Even if we would believe his story of a negative supply shock combined with a negative demand shock, there would not be a problem. -people want to sit at home, play video games and consume fewer goods (negative demand) -people want to sit at home, play video games and produce and produce fewer goods (negative supply) So fewer goods goods are produced

  • Re: Free Rider Problem as Charity

I agree with the above. Even if the home owners didn't buy insurance, their is still a profitable trade possible. The fire department has all these idle fire fighting equipment ready anyway. So for them it isn't really costly to put out the fire. For the home owners, their home is probably worth much more than the cost of putting the fire out

  • Re: Was Hitler innocent?

For example, you strap a bombbelt around a child and you till the child to go hug the nice man? It seems that in that case, you are using the child as a weapon. A gun is not capable of making a moral judgement, so when you pull the trigger, the moral decision has been made by you. You are guilty and not the gun. I think the same reasoning would go for

Are we starting from the assumption that people who commit crimes would not go to jail? I imagine the family of the guy who was killed would like compensation.

Besidse, what are you so worried about, its not that mafia bosses wouldn't be punished. PDA can hire a hitman to kill them for instance Of course that hitman would then go to jail as he is the killer of someone who is not guilty of any crime.

The general idea being there that you only have the right of ownership of something if it increases your happiness.

  • Re: Economic blogs going after Libertarians

From the Naked Capitalism Blog: Block says that if the apartment owner demands that the person let go, and the flagpole hanger attempts instead to climb down into the balcony, then if “the occupant shoots him for trespassing… the answer is clear. The owner… is in the right, and the trespasser is in the wrong.” This sounds strange

  • Re: Welfare economics and externalities

I like your explanation and I think you make some valid points. I would like to add something about your following statement: The money for increasing the quantity consumed must come from somewhere. You rightly point out a flaw in the model you saw in your Econ class. A flaw that has been recognized by mainstream economics. The model that was used in

  • Re: Refuting the logic behind "If you don't like America (or, insert your country here) then leave".

Everyone who is not in total agreement with the status quo should leave then. Obama should leave because he wanted a different health care system. It's a stupid argument and people who use it aren't open to honest discussion. They don't want to discuss anything, they just want to show how wrong you are. Everyone who says that in a discussion
