I have no idea what's happened over the past week, but we've obviously got a sudden influx in new members, which is pretty exciting since we've only gotten a handful of new people this year. So welcome! You can use this thread to introduce yourselves, and I hope that we'll enjoy what you all have to contribute in the coming months. Also

  • Re: Minarchy vs Anarchy

"Does being a Austrian economists mean you have to be an Anarchist?" No, but it's becoming increasingly common. "So whats the relationship?" A large number of anarcho-capitalists are Austrians in their economic view and a large number of Austrians are anarchistic in their political views, although these are not universal by any

  • Re: Question on value free method

You're confusing is and ought. If a bullet is shot at someone's head then we can look at the physics/biology of what happens. This cannot tell us what should happen or whether what does happens is good or bad. It is merely what happens. If someone looked at the viewpoint that the bullet would pierce the person's skull and said "that's

  • Re: How can anarchy sustain itself?

    1. There's no reason to believe that such a large and centralized monopoly would ever come to power. 2. There's no reason to believe that people would submit to these laws. Anarchy would be nearly impossible to destroy from the inside because of the ideology that would have to exist for it to come about in the first place.

  • Re: what do you think about the electoral college?

Honestly my care level is 0. If anything I like the electoral college because it's another example to point to with statist democrats (in the broad sense of the term) that the state and democracy both fail, because they can't even rectify their systematic anti-democratic failures.

"Alex Jones - We need someone loud. Jesse Ventura - We need someone who has killed. Max Keiser - You can never have enough loud guys. Peter Schiff - We need someone who says that Americans are broke. Bill Clinton - We need someone who can get the chicks. Decision #1 - Send Paulson and Bernanke to Gitmo. By airplane. Decision #2 - Layoff 50% of

  • Re: Higher Order Goods and Interest Rate Sensitivity

FOTH, Sorry I haven't responded to your earlier post. It's on my to do list (I've been vaguely AWOL on these forums lately) and I only just realized that it's been a week since your post. So I'll answer your second question here. In the Crusoe example the net is supposed to show the importance of taking time for production instead

  • Re: Mises and Rorty quote, Aristotle tidbit, AE confession

"I didn't realize there was a uniquely PK approach to price theory. I would be interested in seeing how it differs. Any particular authors worth checking out?" Wasn't that what the "Unlearning Economics" guy was promoting when he was here talking about marginalist price analysis a while ago? I know that he identifies himself
