  • Re: The State and its relationship with religion...

It gets really weird when entailed property is in the hands of a person who dies without issue as established by the entail...then it goes back up the family tree to the next available qualifying member, see Pride and Prejudice for an example. Such things were established by an initial grant with male or female issue specified, etc.

Ha ha, I should have wondered why that sounded funny. I'm familiar with both authors' works. Frazer was an armchair anthropologist, he only ever had access to second and third-hand information. He was writing at a time when the idea of comparative religion was very attractive. Theosophy had introduced the idea that among all the religions of

My take on the history of religion and government is that monotheism is too handy a tool not to be used by the state. Because it teaches reliance on a single all-powerful authority REGARDLESS of whether or not that authority is actually providing a valuable service, it becomes a perfect analog for coercive governement to achieve the cooperation of the

I'd take care relying on Graves for valuable theories about any other civilization but Classical Greek. He was a poet, first of all, and secondly a classicist-and perfectly willing to make up what he did not know, as well.

Are DiLorenzo's books credible? Does he overlook evidence contrary to his aims? I like to read dissenting views, but those books look pretty sensationalized.

The trick with stress is a valuable tool. Do you know the pattern of iambic pentameter? Here’s the first line of a Robert Frost sonnet to explain. He would declare and could himself believe The stress pattern in iambic pentameter is duh DUH duh DUH duh DUH duh DUH duh DUH. It consists of five (that’s what Pentameter refers to) “feet”

I have made some purely grammatical, formatting, and rhetorical suggestions below. I think it is a good paper and a little attention to the language in the areas I have made bold will bring out the strongest possible wording and improve your readers' understanding. Keep a couple of things in mind: two spaces after a period, one after a comma; also

  • Re: What kind of music do Austrians listen to?

Oh! And in September I finally forked over for Rush tickets, first time I've been able to see them live. Caught them at the Prudential Center in N.J. I must say, it was awesome to see them but that is one crummy sounding stadium. I bought tickets for my sister and her husband too, and they weren't all that familiar with Rush. I'm not sure
