• Re: do we need the supernatural for morals?

That was Kant's assertion. I don't think it's the case. I'm a good guy because it makes me feel like I'm in line with my conscience. I don't care about an afterlife when I do things the help others and so forth. So my answer is no, I don't believe you need a belief in the supernatural to be moral.

Cool gift, buddy. Yeah, I got an NES back in the 80s and loved it! Thanks for responding, fountainhead. I thought more people would've enjoyed this thread. Yeah, I can't resist the political arguments at the dinner table. I get too worked up. I had a discussed with a family member on Christmas who was a self-avowed supporter of "many and
So, I've been reading this site and forum for awhile now; just the other day, in fact, it struck me that it's actually been several years. I started reading as a leftist, and have stayed that way. I've often intended to come in here and debate/argue/discuss a bit but I've never gotten around to it, so with
Why aren't I a libertarian?
Ahhh! This ought to be "Why am I not a libertarian?" Aren't is a contraction between "are" and "not," and you certainly wouldn't say, "Why are not I a libertarian?" or "Why are I not a libertarian?" right?

  • Merry Christmas!

For everyone who celebrates Christmas in this forum, what has been your favorite gift ever? Capitalism is a wonderful thing, I figured the least we could do is share our favorite form of wealth we've received from loved ones over the years. My favorite gift thus far in my life: as far as a wrapped gift, probably the N64 I received when I was 15
Truth = Good. Good = Truth. My preference, I am merely informing you of this. It makes me happy to do this, no more nor less. Seeing people say true things makes me happy. I like those people. I dislike people who say untrue things. Why feel that way? But I learn nothing from false statements. People who say false things

Sadly, it took Obama to wake me up. I noticed that it wasn't merely the fact that he was spending so much money on things I disagreed with as it was that he was spending so much money period! A little examination of American history taught me that with the advent of the current constitution, spending ballooned and here we are. Ron Paul was most

Dang, it didn't post. Here's a copy & paste: Ron Paul makes me sick I've always agreed intellectually with Stef about politics and Ron Paul. But I was still wildly entertained by Paul and his campaign---checking his website, watching the YouTubes, listening to FTL, etc. But I say, in the past few weeks, I've been literally nauseated
