  • Typical pro-stimulus arguments?

Whenever I mention that unemployment is worse than official predictions said it would be - even without the stimulus - I hear that the recession was worse than we thought or something along those lines. What evidence is there to support that? I've read some Bob Murphy articles that argue it usually comes down to using models that "beg the question"

  • Re: The First Church of Mises

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees the parallels between Dennet's ideas of cranes vs skyhooks and the idea of the market order anarcho-capitalists talk about vs centralized state "order" It seems so obvious, but I believe Dennett is himself some kind of socialist. It's not entirely clear because he mostly criticizes rather

  • Re: Why does anyone here care about radical leftists?

It seems to me that "libertarians" (maybe not anarcho-capitalists) definitely DO associate with the radical right wing. I don't feel like getting mired in a RP Newsletter discussion, but I think historically it's not an uncommon association, so I'm not sure that's a valid point. Anyways, aside from that, I don't think the

  • Re: To AnCaps: are minarchists really libertarians?

I'd like to inject myself into the discussion here just to link to a relevant article I read recently about nonviolent civilian defense http://mises.org/journals/jls/20_3/20_3_2.pdf I've taken a seminar in nonviolent conflicts and there really are some pretty inspiring examples of effective nonviolent noncooperation. It seems to me that ultimately

I think minarchism is incoherent but that isn't the standard for libertarianism. I would say contemporary anarcho-capitalism seems to be more of a subset of a libertarian/classical liberal body of thought rather than the other way around, since the total number of complete anti-statists is small compared to the whole mass of thinkers involved.

  • Re: Seriously, I need help with this proof

I mean its true A->C (A^B)/A (A^B)->C But without inferring the logical equivalent of the statement of (A^B), which is what that conjunction rule does, idk how you'd even get to the form of the conclusion. You got me man

  • Re: Seriously, I need help with this proof

If "A and B" is true then "A" is true and "B" is true (or whatever jargon you want to use) is called simplification or conjunctive elimination

  • Re: Obamacare

It's kind of hard to get worked up over this. I mean, obviously its bad but despite the historic sort of significance its really not surprising or more egregious than you'd expect.

  • Re: The epistemological status of Praxeology.

Well my assertion is that there's no essential dichotomy between human purpose and "material" as such. The former emerges because of certain instrinsic qualities of the latter. I think, probably, with sufficiently advanced technology that you could make accurate statements about anything that happens in strictly materialistic terms, ie
