• Re: Still debating studying econ at university

FunkedUp, A. Having an Economics degree does not mean being an Economist is the only career open. It's also a degree that's great for finance and other fields. That's why the pays so high for it (see my previous post). Also, it opens the opportunity for advancement to the managerial ranks. Many hedge fund managers have econ degrees. From

FunkedUp, I beg to differ. First of all having bachelors degree entitles you to teach nowhere. At least, not on the college level. Secondly, in addition to a job with the government there are plenty of opportunities for a economics major that may be considered enjoyable and beneficial even if they aren't necessarily paid evangelization of Austrianism

  • Views of Austrian Economics

Hey guys sorry I only post here occasionally but I've been thinking about something relevant. Among academic Austrian economists there seems to be a much greater willingness to cite or explore non-Austrian thinkers than among lay people. Academics seem to treat Austrian economics as in dialog with the mainstream while I can't count the number

  • Re: Voting from an Anarchist Perspective

I never understood the idea that if less people voted the state would lose its legitimacy. Let's look at the numbers From: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0781453.html In the chart below every midterm election since 1960 has had less than 50% of voting age people voting. Yet the US congress hasn't lost it's legitimacy. Similarly, voting in
Yet another case of what I call "The deification of the celebrity philosopher". You can't use the fact that a really famous philospher said something as an argument. It's bankrupt and a reflection on the lazy "cult of celebrity" culture that exists in all areas of life today
Ummm defining
