I ride trials motorcycles. They aren't made for speed but have incredible torque and acceleration. It is easy to get hurt very badly, very quickly. I was making a tight turn in heavy brush one day when my throttle pegged wide open. The bike lurched forward alarmingly so I grabbed the throttle and hit the kill switch. I corrected the problem on the spot and we rode for a few more hours, the importance of keeping the clutch covered at all times now strongly reinforced in my psyche.

Twice, in 1970 & 1982, I had an accelerator linkage stick in the wide open position. It made for a brief moment of fear but I did not panic. I TURNED THE KEY OFF. Then I pulled over, got out and popped the hood. I am no mechanic. But I have eyes and a brain. I used them. I saw the problem. I fixed it. No problem. I drove off, a little shaken, but confident that I whatever happens in life, I can handle it by thinking. But that's just me. I see others whose first reaction is to become paralyzed with fear. Fear motivates me to raise my level of awareness to its highest. I used to believe this was a survival instinct. Now I see this is a CHOICE based on my previous thinking. I believe in the mind, and my mind in particular is there for survival.

Well in Hofn, Iceland in 1981 when women were introduced 73% of them got pregnant according to one irate general. I was there when it changed from all men to 10 or so women and 90 horny men.

When it was just guys we drank, went outside and fought some, got tired and cold, went back inside and drank some more. We lifted weights, did the radio dj thing, and could never believe we were so unlucky to get this jail time that lasted a year. Depressing and boring.

When the chicks arrived it was a mad rush to get laid. Even the ugliest looked like a goddess to us. A few of the married ones said they were not interested but that didn't last long. Soon all the girls were humping away with the guys including the married ones. Some guys go lucky and some didn't.

The inventiveness of the guys always amazed me. Some used brute force, some their intellect and some their soothing talk. I ended up bedding a Air Force and Navy. My best friend who was married had a steady. His wife found out and they divorced. The lady who was married had her husband pay her a unexpected visit and that most likely ended. One chick used her guy as a lap dog. The experience certainly added excitement but we all lost respect for each other in the end.

The only group that came out looking good and with some pride intact were the officers who did their duty and did not fraternize with the enlisted. The rest of us acted like a bunch of dogs in heat pleading for a chance at the snatch that was so tantalizingly close to us.

And this was on a isolated peninsula in the middle of nowhere. We had facilities to go to and release tension. I could not imagine this being played out on a submarine. The Navy better just tie the tubes of those girls because they will be humping from one end of the pacific to another. They will get pregnant. There will be a break down of social order at the very least among the enlisted. What a tragedy.

The real question isn't "What is the way out?" but "How do we implement the way out?" And that, despite my vaunted mental prowess (one hopes the tongue-in-cheek can be detected here) still eludes me. Maybe I should spend less time writing novels that get no attention and try to organize a political movement. Then my friends and family would REALLY think I've lost it! They might even be right. ;-|

As you pointed out the solution is simple, but will new blod be stifled by pathological self promoters? It's time we, as conservatives, brought ab0out "change". I say let's get started Nov. 2010 is closer than we think it is.

A wonderful analysis (and analogy) of where this nation is headed. The Fabians have slowly, steadily, since FDR’s New Deal, been creeping into our schools, the mainstream media, and our federal government. So, here we stand on the brink of that cliff, being steadily forced to the drop off point. Now what do we do? You have pointedly identified the problem. What can we do at this late stage to stop this madness?

Obama is a Marxist socialist/communist. His plans for America are clear now. He campaigned as a moderate, and the majority of the voters bought that lie. Within days of being in office he began rolling out his radical agenda, the most malignant being his proposed health care program. It has now been forced through the House of Representatives despite its lack of public support and all efforts to suppress it. Obamacare represents the most hideous encroachment of government to ever infect this nation. I feel it is the beginning of the end of our liberty, as we know it.

So I put the question to you Futbol Guru, with your 150+ IQ. What can we do to save a nation from a Marxist who plans to sink us into the depths of ghastly socialism? Again I commend you for your analysis of where we are headed. Now, please show us a way out.

That is why I, the FutbolGuru - IQ 150+, had to say it. Party apparatchiks, regardless of affiliation, either start stupid or end up that way. Just because Republicans are running the opposite direction of Democrats doesn't mean they aren't headed towards a cliff too.

Republican could have capitalized the moment and link obamacare as a clear step back into the socialist economic policies of Eastern Europe and Soviet Russia.

I heard nothing! Nothing that would link the irony of the 20 year celebration of the wall with the Universal health care this nation is embarking on.

Brilliant. And on the other side of the same coin, otherwise decent people can be made to accept monstrous things when those things are codified in law. As a minor example, naked short selling is clearly unethical but because it is legal, it is exploited. A bit farther down the alphabet we find that since exterminating people of a certain class was made 'legal' in Nazi Germany, people who would have otherwise rejected such a notion accepted it, or at the very least, went along with it.

I understand the comment regarding the economy and Christianity and I agree. However, I would like to add that as people become more relient on laws they often become less relient on morals. There is a direct relationship. If your always looking to the government to tell you how to behave you are much less likely to think for yourself and rely on morals or good judgment.

The scam artists of the world will always find a way around the laws. However, the decent people who once relied on Morals will now rely on the law itself. So if the law doesn't say "persuint to code 13 section 22 all people must save at least 20% of their income" they wont do it. Just because the speed limit is 55 doesn't mean you always need to do 55. etc etc etc.

For each and every law passed there is a new group of people who will figure out a way around it as well as another group of people who will come to rely on it instead of thinking for themselves.

For example some people will buy radar detectors (or judges) so they can speed without paying fines. Others will drive 55 at times when it's only safe to do 40.
