It is so ill defined and vague. When we examine it's alleged aspects we find our understanding of it is false and vague. Lets try to establish it's defining features:- Is it statism? Nope. There are both statist and non statist I.e. Anarchist conservatives.Whether you believe in government or not is not it's essential feature.Statist conservatives are just conservatives who are statists.Far from explaining anything this just muddles the concept more. Is it support from war, expansionist empire or imperialist? Nope.I guess you haven't heard of the Old Right or Paleo-conservatives or those who are anti-war and conservative. Pro family? Nope. aren't most people excepting radical feminists,marxists,anarcho-leftist loonies and some psychologists that? Pro Community? Nope. All but the most irrational and antisocial are opposed to community even if some supporters of it do destroy it. Pro religion? Nope. Many people are religious or pro -religion including socialists, anarchists,BDSM fans, pornographers and new agers(sorry to lump some of these together i.e. the BDSM and pornographers with the undesirables). Belief in absolute morality? Nope. Most at very least support this in name. Some socialists support it as a requirement of their political dogma, same goes for Randians. Belief in law and order? Nope . I'm supportive of this and I'm not conservative in the slightest, same goes for Roderick Long or Wendy Mcelroy and others. Belief in hierarchy? Nope.I support this as do many other average people to some degree or another. What about the much stereotypical view of conservative as pro-life? well some leftists are pro-life in abortion sometimes too as are some others for various religious and moral reasons. It's not an exclusively conservative position. ................ Features I can discern are : 1. Much higher value than average placed on taste, decency and manners. 2.Strong belief in traditional lifestyles. 3.Much higher value than average placed on tradition and culture. I may add to this post at a later date after I've had time to think more on it and also discuss it..
Hopefully I have successfully managed to avoid caricaturing any of these positions or assuming conservatism to be what it's not.
Any thoughts?
I don't really want to comment or read anything here.I have near zero in common with many of you.I may return periodically when there's something you need to know.
