Are you asking what cables are? If so, they're basically diplomatic phone calls (to put it simply) between two countries' bureaucrats.

The cables they've been publishing for a month have all been United States diplomatic cables. This particular story is talking about the encrypted 'insurance' file consisting of every unredacted cable Manning gave them, the password to which Assange has set to be leaked should something happen to him.

That's amazing. I hadn't heard of that. This situation is becoming more and more like a movie every day. I love it. I'll never have to rent/buy movies again.

You could just Google this stuff.

They're not actually verbal phone calls. That was just my easy way of explaining it. It's more like texting but a complex version of texting.

Telegrams.

I had always been impressed by the fact that there are a surprising number of individuals who never use their minds if they can avoid it, and an equal number who do use their minds, but in an amazingly stupid way. - Carl Jung, Man and His Symbols

i.e. nothing special, just funny stuff.

The Regression theorem is a memetic equivalent of the Theory of Evolution. To say that the former precludes the free emergence of fiat currencies makes no more sense that to hold that the latter precludes the natural emergence of multicellular organisms.

I think we are just talking about emails here. The word cables is a goofy 19th century term that survives to inflate their importance.

I read a bunch of them and they read like NYT articles - or summaries of NPR. Mostly boring and stupid.
