I was sitting in my Global Human Issues class today, fiddling with my phone, passively listening to the warped view of economics my professor was giving (this is an anthropology class, mind you), and randomly decided to record his lecture using a newly downloaded voice recording application. I wasn't particularly sure what I would ever use the recording for, but decided to record about the last half-hour of his lecture anyway.
I'm listening to it now, and I began to think of possibly posting them here. Why? Either to give people a glimpse into what certain professors are actually saying to their students about history, economics, et al., or to maybe have a critique-fest of the sort of things he's saying.
Any thoughts on this idea? I can easily email the recordings to myself and figure out a way to post them. Would there be any sort of problems (other than lack of interest) associated with this?
You could get sued. Thanks to IP rights :) I would say, ask a professor's permission or if you don't care (I wouldn't), then post in archive.org and give us a link.
(english is not my native language, sorry for grammar.)
Yup, IP issues. I had a prof last semester who told us that we are not allowed to record the class.
This prof was also a moron (no kidding). It was some intro to psychology class (why is this a requirement for an econ degree?) and for the first few weeks he babbled about the "philosophy of knowledge," which of course had absolutely nothing to do with the philosophy of knowledge, aka epistemology. The man was a tenured fool who didn't have a clue about what he was talking about. I dropped out of that class, even though it was past the refund deadline. I just couldn't take it.
In retrospect, I should have recorded his lectures and posted them here, just to expose him as a complete idiot.

I figured there might be some IP issues. I should look over the student guidelines for my school to see if there's anything prohibiting the recording of lectures.
Just ask your prof. He most likely won't mind. In fact, he'll probably be thrilled that you're taking additional steps to do well in his class.
What if it's for educational purposes? Pun ironically intended. Ironically.
To paraphrase Marc Faber: We're all doomed, but that doesn't mean that we can't make money in the process. Rabbi Lapin: "Let's make bricks!" Stephan Kinsella: "Say you and I both want to make a German chocolate cake."

The OP reminded me of my intro Anthropology class, which I took before becoming somewhat economically literate. I dug up the old notes and was amazed by all the anti-capitalist brainwashing going on. Gave me a much better understanding of how education in Amerca reinforces the dominant ideology. So, I think it would be useful for you to post the lectures if you got permission.
when someone complains that their professors is a moron, I never know if the implication is suppose to be that they are going to a 3rd rate school where the staff sucks or that they consider themselves to be unrecognized geniuses.
but why would you want to leave anyone with *either* of those two impressions?
some human behaviors are still beyond my comprehension.

I wanted to do the same today in my entrepreneurship class. We were supposed to think of ways to make airport security more efficient, and everyone stood up in the front of the class saying, "Let's let the government put tracking chips in us. Seriously, freedom isn't that important. We need to be safe." Legitimate quotation from this kid in my group. I got up there and said that no one has a better reason to protect the plane and the people inside than the airline company and the people inside, respectively, and that we should just allow airlines to secure the cockpit better and let everyone bring their own knives onto planes because no one is going to try to set a shoe-hidden bomb on fire while everyone around them is strapped. Of course the students and professor were like...
Aww man Brian Anderson I wish I was in your class to cheerfully stand up and agree :)
Why thank you, freeradicals! I would have appreciated that!
tracking chips? I've heard about this, was the kid joking or is this a real issue.

Such an idea is not at all surprising from life-long unproductive and dependent slaves.
I've had similar conversations with the people I work with, specifically about the porno scanners and the TSA. Most everybody agrees that "I mean it's not a big deal; it's not sexual, they're just looking to make sure the plane is safe." and then they drop this chestnut "flying is a privelege, not a right!" Sheesh.
