Regular Americans really want government to protect us.  The number of police protecting us is never enough.  Don't believe me, read this:

"I am not so worried about the people on the trains as I am about the tracks, tunnels and bridges, all unguarded, that make easy targets. We drive and I hold my breath going across bridges on I-95 all the way down. There is no way to make us 100% safe, unfortunately, especially when so much of the infrastructure is easily accessible to all."

Politicians have done a fantastic job legitimizing their "role." People are successfully fear-stricken when it comes to... everything, mission accomplished!

These folks just have not read the fine print.  Government has no responsibility to protect the people of the country.  There are several court cases that provide the precedents for this.

I am sure that these same folks wishing 100% protection are also the same folks who depend on the anti-SOCIAL in-SECURITY un-TRUSTed Fund to provide an ever increasing standard of living through retirement.
