Why Did Bin Laden Deny Partaking in 9/11?

He was so proud of all the other attacks he conducted.  Why did he deny having a part in this one?  And why did he say "the US government should find the attackers within the country."

I haven't kept up with this, did the U.S. ever provide evidence or proof that Bin Laden was involved? I remember hearing that they refused to provide evidence to Afghanistan.
