Austrian economists in public universities?

 I am trying to find a good plan to make my master studies in Economy. Currently I am studying Mechanical Engineering - Industrial Engineering at the Uruguayan public university. Because of my work (12 hours a day) and the mediocre system of my university, my average grade is a logarithmic 4, most universities ask for a grade of 8 to admit the student. 

A good friend of mine who is a PhD student told me grades don't matter, that all I have to do is to find a professor who finds my ideas and my line of research interesting and he or she would help me to get a job at the university and so pay for my studies. He also told me that only public universities work that way while in the privates that doesn't exist.

Ok, I have several nice ideas to conduct research in. All of them in an Austrian perspective.  My problem now is to find some Austrian brains in public universities. I know that Jesus Huerta de Soto is at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Spain, but I wonder if there is anyone else in a privileged position in the USA.

 

Just a note: Logarithmic grades work this way:

You do nothing you get 0, you do 50% you get 3, you do 60% you get 6, you do 100% you get 12. The other grades are a little bit subjective. For example, it is very rare to grade a student with 1 or 2. Most of the professors just give you a 0.

The Agricultural Economics Program at Missouri University caught my eye, as I have an extensive experience with the agricultural industries. Also, I could make it as a consultant from within the family business.

But, is an Agri Econ program really a good idea to work in Economics? Would it limit me too much?

Also, how hard would it be make it into a PhD program after that?

I guess it would be easy to make it with a good dissertation at Francisco Marroquin University but I would like to hear your opinions.

BTW, the ESEADE site doesn't say anything about Doctorate studies. What they have is a MA in Economy and Political Sciences.

It probably would limit you. I recommend doing a degree at the most reputable institution you can. GMU IMO would be the best for an economics programme, given that it also offers programmes in public choice and other branches of economics, as well as law-and-economics programmes, and given that the Austrians teaching there are well-known for their high quality work. NYU would be the other excellent choice, as it also attracts major Austrian scholars. I doubt you'd have a problem doing a PHD with a degree from either uni. GMU is also on the rise in rankings. About Francisco Marroquin, I don't know much about it but I'll PM some info about what I do know. Spain and France also offer good degrees in Economics with an Austrian theme, but it's quite far I'd think for you to go. There is also the option of doing a degree at Chicago university or Harvard, and then doing a PHD at GMU or vice-versa, or doing the entire course at the former two and then doing Austrian courses at somewhere like GMU or the Mises Institute.

Are there any Austro / Libertarians academics in Mexico or Brazil??

It would be easier for me to get a scholarship to go there.

Any online Economics  Programs beside London University? (which is just a diploma, not a degree)
