Hoppe discusses the golden age prior to WWI starting with some quotes here. I lost this lecture and ended up in a debate with someone on these forums about whether the West today is freer or less free than it was 100+ years ago. We are immensely less free. Because it has happened so gradually, it is difficult to truly fathom just how far we have fallen into the pit of bondage.

Bertrand Russell wrote that WW1 meant a huge loss of freedom all over the world.

For instance, prior to it, you did not need a passport to travel from country to country.
