This thread was created in response to someone who asked why all libertarians were old white men.

I know the freetalklive hosts would like to see more non-white libertarians moving up to New Hampshire.  I know they are out there, but they just do not seem to be as interested.

At most, I think only 5% of the adult population would need to stop cooperating to have real change.

On the Facebook page, one of the members mentioned turning Libertarian after reading Community Technology by Karl Hess.

Anyone read it?

OMG what are we gonna do.  Non-White libertarians.  Holy crap how could this have happened.  We need a plan, a big one.  I thought the Jews would be all, but now non-whites.  The sky is falling.

Criminals, there ought to be a law.

Criminals there ought to be a whole lot more.   Bon Scott.

I'm pretty new to the forums, but I'm Hispanic and of course a libertarian. But I don't consider myself a Latin-American, just an American (well, a Libertarian-AmericanBig Smile).

My entire family came here with nothing from Honduras. My father, 30 years ago came to this country through Job Corp. program with no education or hand outs. He had only the promise of a job. However, he did have an incredible work ethic. He currently OWNS 5 properties, all valued over 300,000.00$ and has an comfortable nest egg in the bank. I guess his the primary reason I never really believed in this false doctrine that hard work alone is not enough. I guess he’s a damn good example of the free market in action. God bless his heart.

I must add, he wasn't an isolated incident. My aunt is a millionaire and the rest of my uncles have had the same success. America is truly a great nation. I can only hope these opportunities are still possible when I'm his age.

Stop picking on female libertarianS! Although I wish more women were libertarians, do you know how much of a turn off it is for girls to hear you're a libertarian? Not a good conversation starter at all. Don't even get me started on An-Capitalism or even the ABCT. I'm afraid to bring up libertarianism with women, really!

I'm not of a white background and I find libertarian men very attractive because of their passion about liberty.

Don't be. Since from earlier posts it seems you're still at school so I wouldn't be surprised if most of your peers wouldn't be able to tolerate serious political discussions, never mind those outside of the norm.

If there's anything I've learned though, it is not to hide your passions and interests, but to share them. This is because they are a part of you, and you are ultimately what other people and women want to get to know and find interesting. It's also important to not be dismissive, but to show a genuine interest in others.

Sorry for the mini peptalk, I'm sure you don't need one....

Who the hell cares about race these days? It is so hard to take people seriously who do. BTW, my grandparents were from North Africa. When do I get my medal?

.... Quite frankly some of the discussions I've had with some black people about things like affirmative actionn would really care to differ.

That's life, and pretty much people in general I think, I've never found I click with everyone.

One of my housemates thinks I'm a complete nut with this stuff, and I think he's a close minded statist baffoon as far as economics goes, but I generally try to avoid discussing it with him now, so it's not such a big deal.

An overwhelming proportion of young people are statist baffoons. Yoiu should see some of the shouting matches that erupt in my political science classes. It's pretty intense! I've found that most of the Muslim students there really tend to like me (since there is such a strong anti- Muslim setiment).

To be fair, it's been about 4 years since I've been at high school, and that was in the UK and back then I was a statist but beginning to sympathise with the free market. I think I was lucky to have gone to a grammar school actually, since finding out about the Austrian school, I can realise the wisdom in my old History teacher's cynicism...

My experience may have been quite different to yours. I've found most people to not be particularly passionate about economic or political issues, so essentially you have a minority of passionate interventionists, and a majority of mild statists.

You might find people who are not so passionate easier to convince, or people who are passionate, since at least they seem to care.
