Interesting. Altough he should have more caution treating religion as such a distinct separate category from other relations.
Yet another nail in the coffin of the Hobbesian jungle theory, eh?
This is profoundly interesting, though, and I have to agree with most of it (not sure where I stand on the "no afterlife" thing). I've always kind of wondered why I always kind of feel bad if I kill a bug or something that I don't think deserved it (I normally only kill bugs that I feel threatened by in some way, be it wasps that might sting me, cockroaches that might spread disease, or arachnids that might bite/sting me). This makes a lot of sense.
Funny, though, that the bible is apparently right that we all come from one particular couple. That means we're all pretty much brothers and sisters! So, come on. Let's have one big metaphorical/mental group hug! Come oooooon!
What is Hobbesian jungle theory?
(english is not my native language, sorry for grammar.)
VERY interesting.

No, not really. Mitochondrial Eve and Y-chromosomal Adam lived about 100,000 years apart.

I'm reminded of a bit of the beginning of the comedian Jim Jefferies I Swear to God special. Note that this might be offensive:
"Then there's how religious people believe it [the universe/life] was created and that's Creationism. They believe that uh, God put two white people in the jungle without sunscreen and they f***** and now we have people. And we've got black people, arab people, oriental people and with the amount of inbreeding, very few retards. It seems so plausible!"
My apologies. Did I get the name wrong? Well, whatever you call the whole belief that without the state to keep people in line they'd all go crazy and kill each other is what I meant.
Really? I must have either missed that in the video or it didn't say. Thanks for the correction, my friend.
Did you miss the part about people outside the tribe being aliens, mortal enemies?
you got it right (as far as google tells), I just wanted quick summary of that concept, sorry my laziness :D and thanks, now I know what you were talking about.
No. That was just how people were back then (and human society has progressed a lot in that time). A state would not make that any better, you know. In fact, it would make it worse by forcing those who DIDN'T want to fight the tribe over the hill to still support a war against them either through taxes or conscription.
