Do inflation measures in the US include the price of houses?

I am trying to find out if the standard inflation measures (i.e. quoted or targeted by politicians and/or the Fed) used in the US include the price of houses. I.e the actual purchase price, not the mortgage payments or rental costs. Can anyone point me to a reference?
