NYC 22 - Pilot Episode
*Many Spoilers* *Many Spoilers* *Many Spoilers* *Many Spoilers*

The premise: A bunch of rookie cops start out their jobs at precinct 22 in NYC.

The acting: Decent.  Some good acting, some mediocre acting.

First things first, the cops are clearly meant to be the good guys.  They are put into situations where they are defending Justice.  Some of the cops are antagonistic towards each other, and this is the only time any of the cops' aggression is portrayed in a bad way.

There was one scene where some young black teenagers are part of a gang and are searched by the cops.  At the end of the scene one of the black teens makes a comment about the blonde cop, and she walks over and she grabs his hand and twists it.  This aggression is meant to be seen as establishing that the blonde cop is not a pushover, and naturally her aggression is meant to be acceptable behavior.

Another situation: a man hits his wife, and a police woman investigates.  The husband holds both hostage.  He has gone nuts because he lost his job.  He partner knocks on the door and is held hostage too.  The female cop knocks the man out eventually after outwitting him.

In between these scenes, we follow other cops defending Justice on the streets.  Some stop a fight.  Another comes across an old friend turned thief and tells him to turn himself in.  Another stops a gang iniation ritual of stealing from a store.

The climax of the episode is when 4 of the rookies intervene in a gang war, where all the teens are beating each other with bats and sticks and pipes.

All of the rookies we followed are then chewed out by their boss at the end of the episode for some of the dumb things they did that day, though the things that we would want them to be chewed out for were not mentioned.  Afterwards, the boss tells them that the other rookies did worse.  Clearly, we are supposed to think this bunch is great after all.

Verdict: Standard nonsense.  Not worth watching, not that I was expecting any different.  Obviously, the cops have to combat crime, just as firefighters combat fire.  But there is nothing interesting about this show, libertarian or otherwise.  Just thought I would share this with you guys.

So, it's not as bad as Blue Bloods?

To paraphrase Marc Faber: We're all doomed, but that doesn't mean that we can't make money in the process.
Rabbi Lapin: "Let's make bricks!"
Stephan Kinsella: "Say you and I both want to make a German chocolate cake."

Oh I don't know, haven't seen that show.  This just happened to be on, so I decided to see if it was worth it.
